"I ordered the compost and topsoil mix a few months ago to fill my raised beds. Newbie error on my part- I should have gone with full compost. Regardless, it’s still lovely dirt and my plants seem to be thriving. I did have to add more straight compost to some of the beds, but that’s the nature of the soil in this area. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase!"
"Giving one star for JC the delivery guy who was a delight to deal with. BUYER BEWARE - if you are buying topsoil to do any work in your yard (topdressing, grading, etc), this topsoil will not work. It is 100% clay loam that is impossible to break apart and spread. I was told the soil was screened but there are rocks the size of my fist in there. I pointed this out to the owner after receiving it and then I was ghosted. Such a shame! Lesson learned - in the future I will examine soil before I buy it in large quantities from unknown companies."
"Seems like I am only the 2nd person write a bad review. I would not recommend compost from this company until this is addressed. we purchased 3 cubic yards of compost on March 21 this year. We topped off 5 ~8x5 raised beds and several in-ground rows. First of all, the compost was almost entirely recognizable sawdust and pine chips that must've been livestock bedding. I forgave that as I purchased unseen and deserved what I got. I figured, however, that it would be fine used as a mulch. Within a couple weeks of transplanting beautiful, healthy tomato, pepper, cucumber, beets, chard, strawberry, lettuce, borage, and a good many other plants, something was noticeably wrong. After replacing more than a hundred plants and many hours researching what I had done wrong, I suspected the compost as my potted plants (not mulched with compost) were perfect and thriving. All my plants were stunted and yellow. However, the most dramatic sign was severely twisted branches and curled leaves on the tomatoes and the peppers. The tomato leaves and growing tips in particular (not the oldest branches) curled upward so severely that the newest growth appeared as tight green balls. The stems and branches twisted and twirled. I then suspected persistent herbicide contaminated compost. I performed a bisoassy in which I planted healthy identical tomato and bean starts in separate pots with each of the different potting soils, the purchased compost as mulch, with or without my various fertilizers and ammendments. The plants in the pots with any amount of this compost all became deformed. no other plants had symptoms. Even after removing all contaminated compost and some old soil from my beds and rows, any and all plants planted wherever that compost had been also have severe symptoms. Needless to say, a decade of soil building, several thousand dollars, and multiple future growing seasons have been lost. I am angry, frustrated, appalled. I hope that no one else loses their garden or farm over this."
"The compost and compost blend are top quality at Whinny The Poo. We built 3 raised beds in 2020 and filled all with the blend along with additional grow bags. My garden has never looked so good and Zephyr Squash was amazing. Susan is always great to work with and I go back every year to top off my garden beds. Highly recommend!"
"The garden soil has produced beyond measure than what I have had ever in the past and at great size. Many always asked if anything was added and I could proudly say that it was only the soil provided by Whinny the Poo and at a tremendously great price. Shared some with my neighbors and all of us will be getting more garden soil for next growing season."
