Reviews of Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA
"Very clean, friendly, feels very safe esp. the parking. The pool and therapy pool and hot tub (and wet and dry saunas, 1 each for men and women) keep me coming back even when I'm not quite fit for exercise; they help me rehab my way back to exercising. Locker rooms are clean and comfortable."
"I’ve been going to this gym for 5 years now, we used to be able to park in the garage with our membership cards. They have now implemented a new system where you have to have a credit card to get into the parking garage. If you don’t have one you have to park on the lot across the street which is very unsafe. The problem with this is it’s creating a backup entering and exiting the garage, as the system takes too long or doesn’t work. You also now have to remember to validate your card before leaving the gym to go to your car, or you will be charge. Again, the problem is the YMCA doesn’t have the staff to check in people and validate your card, it takes too long. The director seems to hide away and doesn’t want to personally talk to its members about this issues. There are brand new gyms down the street that are cheaper and don’t have this issue. So do your research before signing up."
"This place has an amenable vibe to it, & It's got nice equipment that seems to be well-kept."
"The good is that you can’t be all the benefits for the price. I like that I have all the traditional gym equipment, in addition to a swimming pool, a steam room, racquetball, basketball, and food court to get coffee. There are plenty of other things as well, but these are the things I use the most. I don’t like how the first floor men’s locker room is dirty often and the showers feel dirty too and often times don’t work properly. The second floor is a lot better maintained, probably because it’s less trafficked. It’s not a huge deal to me because of the price and everything I’m getting but it would be nice to feel more comfortable in the locker room. Also, the gym gets very packed at peak hours so I don’t even go around that time. The machine area has two rows of machines that face each other. This is a terrible set up because you’re looking right at (or trying not to look at) the person across from you while doing your sets. It’s really awkward. They should make both rows of machines face the cardio equipment ASAP. The pool hours can be inconsistent, but I don’t totally blame them for that because things happen out of their control like lifeguards calling in or one maybe quitting, etc. Another thing that I wish would change are the hours on Sunday - this location opens at 12 PM which really affects the structure of my day. I thought about not going at all on Sundays, but weekends are the only time I can get a good weightlifting session in so I choose to go and live with the consequences. The employees are very nice and do what they can with what they have. This is a nonprofit, and they do a lot of good for children and the community by offering all these things at the price they do so I am appreciative what I’m getting."
"1st time attending this location. Joined a circuit training class Monday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Walked a couple of laps then hit the sauna."
