Reviews of Rockler Woodworking and Hardware - Houston
"The class was fun and I learned a lot about lathe technique while making a lovely pen. Jim was helpful and kept me focused."
"I’m trying to wrap an 11.5 inch column in Douglas Fir. It’s tricky. Dado/kerf cut the covering but attaching it is difficult. I was just about to cry “Uncle” and an art friend dropped by. He’s Romanian. He took a look at what I was doing and began telling me a story about Constantin Brancusi - also Romanian. Apparently Brancusi fashioned a violin out of orange crate slats when he was young in the late 1800’s. I thought if he could do that I can build this column. So I went to Rockler to ask advice. Very helpful. Steered me to strap clamps - I actually didn’t know about them - and how to use them efficiently. 4 clamps later I’m back in business."
"Wasn’t really looking forward to writing this review because I enjoy some of the staff, but I’ve spent $1,500 on a tool that is flawed and I’m not getting any help from anybody. I purchased a Laguna 14/12 bandsaw which I had been researching and excited to add to my arsenal. I got the machine home, unboxed it and confirmed everything was there. Spent the day putting it together, and got a couple guys to help me lift the top on the base. Shined everything up, installed blade, everything looked good and I disposed of the box. Less than a week after purchase I went to level the table up and something was off. Couldn’t figure it out but eventually discovered the base of the table was totally warped. The screws that hold the transom under the table in place (which was factory installed) we’re going in at an angle (stripped out) and the plate on the frame the transom connected to was warped/cupped and there is also a gap. Im unable to screw any of the bolts in father to level up the table because they are machine bolts with no play and will only go in at an angle and not flush. I contacted Rockler less than a week after purchase. They agreed it was a manufactures defect and told me to contact Laguna. I contacted Laguna and they told me to call Rocker. Told them I did that and Rocker shot me back to Laguna. Laguna told me Rockler was lazy and didn’t wanna deal with it so told me they would replace it with 1 caveat. I have to find a pallet, lift this 400 pound tool up on the pallet with no instructions on how to package it. Do I stand it straight up, lay it on its side where it hangs several feet off the pallet, wrap it in plastic? Do I lag bolt it down, tie strap, rope it down? Am I responsible for damages going back? All I know is I purchased this from Rockler. It’s not worth my time to take this thing apart and freight it to Laguna, wait for another one, and then put it all together again in the 110 degree Houston heat. I would just rather deal with the warped frame and be p***** off every time I use it. At the end of the day I have a flawed product and nobody cares. Will drive farther and buy everything for myself and also my company at a different supplier. Can’t leave this review on Rockler website given I bought it in store and it’s not linked to my online account."
"This guys have the sweetest staff, everyone is super nice and helpful, and they know everything about woodworking so go to ask questions, they will guide you on the right direction. Additionally, they offer super fun classes."
"The pleasant aroma of the hardwood lumber they sell is worth a visit. Store associates are friendly, knowledgeable an helpful. If you are a serious woodworker or cabinetmaker, this is the place. They carry top of the line woodworking equipment and accessories for a workshop second to none. There is a wide range of hardwood lumber from all over the world. Prices are expensive, but you get the best."
