"A pediatric dentist that doesn't support breastfeeding -- yikes! I took my kiddo for a checkup at 18 mos, our first and only visit to this practice. She had no dental issues at the time (and continues not to). In spite of the fact that she got most of her calories by that point from a varied diet of solid foods and cow's milk, I got an extended lecture from the dentist about brushing or wiping her teeth after every single time she nursed. Not every time she ate, nor every time she drank cow's milk, but specifically after she breastfed. This is presumably based on a belief that human breastmilk is more cariogenic (cavity-causing) than cow's milk or other foods, but the best available data do not support that conclusion. "Breastfeeding between 13 and 23 months had no effect on dental caries." (Pediatrics (2017) 140 (1): e20162943) "It is concluded that human breast milk is not cariogenic." (Pediatr Dent 21:86–90, 1999) As such, I was extremely disappointed that a pediatric dentist would counsel a parent as though breastfeeding were uniquely dangerous to the patient's health. Especially in light of AAP, WHO, and other reputable health organizations advising that healthcare professionals should support breastfeeding up to 24 months. The staff were nice enough otherwise."
"My child hates going to the dentist. In fact, she still hates going to the dentist! But even so- we both agreed that we're glad we found this practice. Every provider is so smart, so kind, and I always feel like they are truly only acting in our best interest. A major plus- the assistants are amazing. They explain everything to my daughter before it happens, don't talk over her etc. I really, really recommend."
"My daughter was nervous and they immediately put her at ease - they explained everything and didn’t pressure her on anything, and very positively reinforced along the way. I think she actually had fun?! She was smiling most of the visit - can’t recommend them enough!"
"What a great place to bring your little ones! The staff were super helpful when it came to scheduling appointments which is super important to us. They have the experience and qualifications to care for a child's teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood. Thank you Austin Kids Teeth!"
"We drive from Hutto to this dentist because they are amazing! The techs and doctors are all very attentive and communicate every step to my kids so that they are aware, comfortable, and secure in what’s happening. They talk to us instead of at us (like I’ve expierenced at other places) and really are attentive to any questions and concerns. My kids love Dr. Carr , and frankly, so do I."
