"My experience with Renken dentistry has been great. I broke a tooth and needed 2 caps replaced. It was all done in a timely manner, the staff was very kind and accommodating, the dentist was great, staff took care of the insurance and was able to give me a detailed cost up front. The office is clean and orderly. Plenty of parking."
"I just want to come on here and give a shout out to everyone that helped with my teeth. Dr. Lira, and Dr. N did a wonderful job with all my dental work, and Brittany B was very professional when taking my x-rays. I will definitely be back."
"Renken Dentistry is a chain, with two offices in Illinois and four in Texas. You will probably not actually be seeing Dr. Renken, but rather one of his young (in other words, inexperienced) proteges. When you visit a Renken Dentistry office you will notice that it is "no frills." You will likely not be greeted by a person. Instead there are iPads on a counter where you input your name and date of birth (in very large fonts so that everyone sitting in the waiting area can see). I noticed that previous patient's names and dates of birth were still displayed on the tablets, which I have to assume is a HIPAA violation. After signing in on a tablet, you'll sit in a hard plastic chair, in a cold room, and wait for someone to come for you. Once in the examining room you'll notice that the equipment is older technology and the dental chair is cold and uncomfortable. The staff are friendly in the same way that hostesses and waitstaff at a restaurant are friendly. We recently moved to the Georgetown, TX area and my wife wanted to find a dentist. Among other things, she has TMJ and uses an NTI mouthguard at night. The NTI is several years old and has gotten worn, so she wanted to replace it. Renken had an office near us, so she decided to give them a try. Despite her misgivings based in the aforementioned "no frills" office environment, she proceeded with her appointment. She showed the young dentist the NTI she currently had and explained that she needed a new one. The dentist proceeded to talk her out of getting a replacement NTI and instead into getting a full mouthguard (despite the NTI having been previously prescribed by a very experienced dentist and having worked very well for several years). The Renken dentist seemed to not give my wife's TMJ much notice, despite having been told about it. But my wife was told she really needed the full mouthguard. $700.00 (out of pocket) later, my wife had a new mouthguard, that was not an NTI. She tried using it at night but it caused a lot of pain. She made an appointment and explained the problems she was having, so they made some adjustments to the mouthguard. She tried it again at night and it still caused a lot of pain. She made another appointment and went back to Renken and explained that it wasn't working out and that the issue was that she needed an NTI, and had requested an NTI, and had instead been talked into the full mouthguard. She asked for a refund. The personnel at the Renken office refused, saying they had spent money ordering the mouthguard. When we asked who we should talk to next about getting the refund, they told us "Dr. Renken." Of course, it is impossible to speak to Dr. Renken, wherever he resides (I assume on a yacht somewhere). We tried calling someone in the billing department to talk about a refund. But all we get at the billing phone # is a recording that says leave a message and they'll call you back in 48 hours. Perhaps our expectations were too high. Our previous dentist, in the state where we previously lived, (who had provided my wife's NTI) was very experienced and always kept up with new technology. Upon entering his office you would be greeted warmly by staff who knew you by name. You would wait in a comfortable, relaxing setting. If there was a billing question or concern, you could speak to someone in management right then and there. Renken does none of these things. I guess they would consider them to be "frills.""
"The staff is wonderful. Shelly is an expert at cleaning teeth! The dentist is very nice. Their scheduling and admin had a few issues but I think it's all worked out now."
"I was overcharged, approx. $300, for a procedure and have not been reimbursed to date. On 8/15/23 I paid upfront, as Renken requires, for a root canal. The dentist made an adjustment to the procedure, which resulted in a lower cost. Instead of crediting my charge card, I was informed that the credit stays in my account or that I would have to contact the billing dept for a refund. Since 9/11/23 I had 4 phone calls with the billing dept, but to no avail. During the first 2 calls they stated that my insurance co has to pay the claim first before before issuing me a refund and they have not been paid. However, according to my insurance co, the claim was paid promptly. During 12/4/23 phone call they stated that the refund check would be sent on 12/6/23. I have yet to receive the check."
