"One of many things wrong with healthcare... Signed up my family of four with this dentist as of September 1. As of mid-October, they still did not have our paperwork. Call insurance and have them fax over authorization because they can't book an appointment until they have it. Also, only available Monday - Thursday. Also, only schedule appointments in the morning. Also, will not allow more than one family member to schedule an appointment at a time, meaning for a two parent, two child household, the parents would likely need to schedule a total of four separate days off of work for the family to be seen. When pressed on this practice, the individual simply indicated that cancellations were a problem and that they did have a business to run. This, of course, raises questions about what else they would be willing to do to ensure the profitability of the business even if it were at the expense of the patient or the patient's health. Finally, their first available appointment was not until December (two months after my call). After disconnecting the call, the office called back to inform me that they would not be accepting my insurance after January 1. So assuming I did all the legwork to get the insurance authorization. And called back to schedule four separate appointments two months out, they would not be able to see my family after the initial appointment. I'd have to start all over again with a different practice."

"I am still shopping dentists in San Antonio and I decided to try Dr. Cuevas' office because my teeth are getting ugly and she has good reviews for cosmetic dentistry. As a new patient one expects having to fill out several forms, but there were two that caught my attention having to do with office policies and money. Among the office policies was the requirement of the patient to agree that if they refused Dr. Cuevas' recommended treatment they "[would] not be rescheduled." I signed the forms, asked some questions and went in for my appointment. As soon as Dr. Cuevas walked in the hard sell began. She made sure to say flattering things about my looks, went on to talk about my cosmetic problems and the causes (grinding teeth/Bruxism), and then talked at length about what I should do about it and why her way was the only way. At this time she also mentioned cleaning, but unlike most dentists, added "with desensitizing agent" at the end. After Dr. Cuevas left I was asked to sign another form stating that she had told me that I had damage due to Bruxism. Fine. When leaving, I didn't ask for another appointment, the receptionist was sure ask me when my schedule was open for a cleaning, with desensitizing agent. I told her that I didn't want desensitizing agent (who needs that?!) and that's when I was told that I would not be rescheduled. This dentist is not for me because I like to decide how my money will be spent. I'm not so much of a pussy that I need to pay $100 for lidocaine while somebody brushes my teeth with a rubber toothbrush and sandy toothpaste. Furthermore, I don't like attempts at manipulation, but I especially don't like when they are tinged with a hint of aggression or resentment. All in all, I only ended up shelling out $5.00 plus $1.80, because I asked for a copy of their office and payment policies and they charged me .99 a piece. I feel like I dodged a bullet. Dr. Cuevas' office might do better if they lay off a bit on the added expense and pushiness and instead shift more toward healthy patients and consensus."
