Reviews of El Toro De Don Jose Mexican Restaurant
"Weekly lunch specials are by far the best part of El Toro Mexican Restaurant. My Wife and I eat lunch there throughout the week on many occasions. But the food is so good, it's worth spending a bit more on the weekend as well."
"Ate here for our first date with my wife of 25yrs, it wasn't the same, but never is, still a great trip down memory lane. The food was good and the service was great, food was served in good time and the drinks weren't too strong. Recommend for a good stop, but not a first date kinda place anymore. Menu seems a bit clustered than I remember, but all the food was served hot and fresh. Only bad spot was the rice was overcooked."
"Some of the things we tried to order for our drinks they were out of—not a problem we ordered something else. We all ordered our food and my son prefers a cheese burger with fries which was on the kids menu. When bringing us our food there were things we asked for—limes for our tacos, salsa, and ketchup. She said she would be back with it. When she came back she let us know there was no ketchup. She asked if my son wanted ranch—he said no thank you. After trying to eat the cheese burger and fries without ketchup he said it was too dry and didn’t want to eat it. When receiving our check I asked if there was any way we would be able to get some type of discount for the cheese burger. I wasn’t even asking her to comp the meal. She said she had to ask her manager. She came back and said the manager had to call and ask the owner. I was a little caught off guard. You’re talking about $4 discount at max and you have to call the owner to make that decision? When she came back she said they were unable to discount it because it was a condiment problem and not a food problem. I was confused when does a cheeseburger not come with ketchup and that’s okay? I let her know it was a food problem because without the ketchup it was dry. She then said “I did say it came with just cheese and nothing else.” First of all she never made that comment, and if she had said at the beginning they didn’t have ketchup we would have ordered something else. Before that comment was made, I felt bad for the server because I understood it was out of her control. I also thought it wasn’t her responsibility to come out to let me know they weren’t discounting the meal—that is the managers job. The way the owner operates this business will eventually run it into the ground. The right thing to do was to comp the whole meal—I wasn’t even asking for that I was asking for a discounted price because they didn’t have the correct condiments to go along with the meal. We will not be going back—there are plenty other Mexican restaurants in the Clarksville area that are locally owned that I would prefer to give my money to."
"The food was terrible. Even the salsa wasn't good. Best part of the meal was the tortilla chips were fresh. What good is fresh chips when the salsa isn't up to par. The staff was short handed but did a great job. The interior is dirty and dated. I would not recommend this restaurant."
"*updated review from 5 stars* After years of being faithful regulars Adrian the "General manager" who then corrected himself as an assistant manager when I addressed his lack of professionalism both snickered, and sarcastically handled me calling with a couple order issues. We will absolutely not be coming back, and have ordered our same meal for several years to have it not only $22 dollars more tonight but entirely wrong. He challenged me, he cut me off, he said "like I said" and "well it's not wrong" so many times I lost count. We had an extra entre added that we did not order, we had a missing order and was not given side of cheese for nachos but a Pico cup of it. He was rude, unprofessional, and when asked to speak to the general manager laughing while telling me he was all I had. The general manager "had a baby a few months ago and comes and goes and has no schedule, so if you have an issue you can talk to me." I asked several times for a time frame and eventually he said I might catch her calling back on a weekend. The order had no quality check, or quality to it. We are disappointed as this has been our go to once a week. He said best he could do was refund the entre that was "accidentally" added. When I told him that wasn't taking care of our entire $70 order he had the audacity to laugh and say well. That's how he responded, ended his sentence and phone call. Looks like we will need to find a new place, because this is entirely too much to excuse for a mere refund of something we never ordered and just eat the remaining $60 in food that was poor. Including pictures of the cheese given for the nachos, while the nachos look good in theory, what are they with enough cheese for 3 chips. The side of beans was rudely said to be included inside the entre, as seen this wasn't even the normal amount given. Also the side of chicken that was ordered was not seasoned as usual, not a big deal nor even mentioned but still disappointed. Would like an actual manager with customer service to respond, thanks."
