"Fantastic restaurant full of history and stories. Food is out if this world. I cant wait to go back!"
"It was OK. Our waitress was nice. Inside was clean but uneventful. It was too cold to sit outside, which I believe would have possibly felt more exciting. Food was... edible. That's about all I can say. The crab cakes were sort of soft, the hush puppies extremely dry and dense, the sweet potato fries were overcooked, the catfish was decent and the French fries, well, they were fries. If I had to summarize, I would say underwhelming."
"We were in search of a restaurant with a river view, and this one caught our attention. While it's not precisely situated on the Kentucky River itself, it's very close, nestled next to the tributary "Loward Howard Creek" that feeds into the Kentucky River. Nonetheless, the view is undeniably picturesque, with a broad, flowing stream and a striking vertical cliff wall to admire. The journey to reach the restaurant takes you through captivating and scenic countryside. Being our first visit, just before arriving, we found ourselves chuckling and wondering if our GPS had led us astray; it felt like such an unexpected location for a restaurant. However, as it turns out, the drive there is an integral part of the experience, and we appreciate the fact that it's tucked away from the usual hustle and bustle. We opted to sit on the outside deck, which was wonderful. My only minor complaint or suggestion regarding the deck is that they could consider altering the railing to provide an even better view of the stunning surroundings, although I understand this might be costly and pose legal challenges. We took time to look around inside the restaurant, there are some fascinating markers on the walls showcasing different flood levels from various years, including a rather large and humorous exhibit/photo of a customer inside the restaurant, floating in a kayak when it was flooded and cheekily requesting bar service. As for the menu variety and food quality, they were excellent. Our group ordered the fish and chips (you can request malt vinegar!), fried catfish, and hot brown, all of which were delicious. The only item that didn't quite suit our personal preferences (though this is entirely subjective) was the chicken wings, which had a unique twist. They might be a hit with others, though! We're definitely planning to return and explore more items on the menu. If you like history, be sure to check out the historical marker sign with the inscription: One of the first marked trails in Kentucky. The path began at Fort Boonesborough, crossed the Kentucky River here at Blackfish Ford, followed a buffalo trace up Lower Howard’s Creek about four miles then turned north and continued on to the Lower Blue Licks, where the first settlers made salt and hunted buffalo."
"I had the Half Rack of Ribs and Sweet Potato Fries. The Ribs were really good and the Homemade Sweet Potato Fries were good too. The reason I gave them 4 stars is the small portion of Fries, seems how I opted not to get the Slaw. Call please don’t think I’m petty, I’m just being honest. My wife had the Fish and Chips, very good sized portions. She enjoyed it very much. Our daughter had the Chicken Alfredo, minus the Chicken. She seemed to like it as well. We will definitely come back again."
"Wow what an experience! Beautiful evening to watch the rain roll in on the patio so we chose to take the kids and eat outside on the river at halls. Should have stayed home. Outside tin roof was leaking on our table. After 10 minutes of not seeing our server, and the leak splashing on our table, we decided to move inside. She met us halfway with our drinks, and led us to a booth inside. Perfect thank you so much sorry for the inconvenience! About 10 minutes later, (I know because the kids were starving and had us time then to see how quickly they cooked!) we got our 6 warm cheese sticks with one cup of ranch (we asked for) but no marinara. $11.99 for this and we were not told that’s the ranch would be substituted. No big deal, let it slide we are starving. Spouse ordered the hot brown, with no ham and no tomato. Came out with ham. When she brought the food, we had asked for some sauces, and refills, because my drink had been empty since the cheese sticks were done. I find plastic wrapped around my half chicken in two different spots, COOKED into the food! I pointed it out to the server and her response was it’s just crispy skin! This is when she took the half brown to be remade and we told her that we didn’t want it at this point. Another waitress came out to confirm that the hot brown was to have no ham and no tomato and that’s when I found another piece of PLASTIC wrapped half way around the breast! Showed her and she just said sorry! Unacceptable honestly and super disappointing. Some of my fondest memories as a kid were riding county roads out there with mom and dad to eat. Had my senior prom meal here. Sadly took my kids for the first time and this was my experience, most definitely will be my last!"
