Reviews of Oliver's Chop House & Bourbon Bar at Derby City Gaming and Hotel
"This place has a upscale Ruth Chris's atmosphere, with a Texas Roadhouse service and food quality. My family and I chose to have dinner to celebrate my birthday but it was more of a birthday celebration dinner disaster. The atmosphere was beautiful, and I was so excited you to just relax and enjoy a luxurious dinner at one of Louisville's finest... but... It took 30-35 minutes to get our salads. Our reservations were for 9:15, at about 10:20 our main entree finally made it to the table, only after I requested to speak to a manager, inquiring about our dinner. Our waiter which I can't remember his name, but I remember he was an impressive 7'1 tall, was prompt for about the first 15-20 minutes of our visit. He seemed to disappear the longer we waited for our dinner. When we first got there the restaurant didn't seem over packed, and they were offering a restaurant week menu, so having been offered this menu I assumed it was easy enough that dinner would go without a hitch. Wrong!!! Once we received our dinner I asked to speak with the manager, same thing, can't remember his name, but a bearded man. I asked him since it's taken forever to get our food and at this point the restaurant has been cleared of customers and closing could he comp some of our bill. Explaining the times on our food and the fact a table that was seated after us had received their dinner a long time before us. Well this guy has every excuse why our food was late, "oh we're busy" " it's restaurant week" "one of your plates required a chicken leg" ( which was the size of a chicken drum) "the chicken takes a really long time to cook, you know not really having prep space" I'm just looking at him wondering how any of that makes sense, and how is it our problem. He refused a comp on our bill, but offered us free credit play!!! Really!!! What in the actual hell!!! I don't want your free play, I came here for dinner, not games!! Hands down the worst experience!! I was also told since dessert was included in the meal, (which we took to go because we were tired of setting there) I would receive a voucher for a free dessert later for my birthday, which I did not. For a $200 meal this place was a joke and a circus. The manager doesn't care, and our waiter didn't have the common courtesy to keep us informed on why our dinner was delayed. Would not recommend, ZERO stars!! We'll never step foot back in that place, and I'll continuously tell people how terrible of a establishment it is!!! To top off the whole experience the food was Texas Roadhouse quality at Best!!"
"***EDIT** AFTER TASTING THIS SOUP, I'D STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT NOBODY TRIED IT. IT TASTES LIKE CONDENSED CAMPBELL'S SOUP WITH A RUBBERY PIECE OF IMITATION CRAB/LOBSTER MEAT. *** I am in Derby City seven days a week and have yet to try this restaurant out. I decided to try the lobster bisque soup and ordered it to go. The gentleman who took my order told me that it'd be out in a matter of a few minutes. They were not busy at all, just handful of people there eating and it took a half an hour to get the smallest, most pitiful serving of soup I've ever seen. Considering the price and factoring in the wait time, you'd expect more. To make matters worse,I had to wait another five minutes for them to find utensils since there was none in the bag."
"Look at our pictures for the bill, and all the food we ordered. There were six of us there for a birthday party. Our server was Devon he was great recommended a few things and anticipated things that you might need. I thought that was pretty cool gratuity was included in the bill. The baked potato was about the size of a football, I think it was the biggest baked potato I’ve ever seen at a steak house. The atmosphere was really cool. The place was very very clean and our waiter Devin was super. You should ask for him when you go. I thought the best steak was the filet mignon you could cut it with a fork no steak sauce needed, all of our food appetizers and drinks were great. We will be back."
"It was quiet in the restaurant as we got there, which made me a little concerned but the place did not disappoint. We enjoyed our oyster appetizers as well as the lobster bisque- the bread was done just right to offer a crispy but soft texture to boot. The tomahawk was good for the most part, just a little plain on the inside. Lobster was perfectly done. There has been mixed reviews from friends - I would be willing to come back for round two."
"Past the whirling lights, and dinging bells of the slots in Derby City, lies Oliver's Chop house. A smallish place with dim lights and a wooden barn theme, the quieter setting was a welcome oasis. We had a larger group so tried lots of different dishes. Everyone seemed pretty pleased with dinner and the service staff was very attentive. I had the prime NY strip and it was delicious. Fall apart tender meat, and tasty sides. The only downfall is the price, this place is expensive. We had a group of 6, which garnered a 20% tip. And while I would have paid it because of the great service, its hard when they force it. All in all, kit was a good experience. Not sure I would go back, but glad I tried it."
