"Great place to go eat. They have a variety of dishes and the buffet is open for dinner on the weekends. We enjoyed everything besides the saga which felt off to both of us. That and the chutney + raita not being convenient to scoop were the only big yiffs I had about this place. But yeah, naan and vegetable samosas were great. They do a generous pour of the mango lassi. Their paneer was alright and the curries to go with everyone was decently seasoned. The chili shrimp was fire. Go here if you got some pescatarian/vegetarians/enjoyers of food and they'd love it."
"When eating Indian food, it’s such a wonderful distinct pallet of flavor. I love Indian food, so it was due time to take my taste buds for a ride by trying out Star of India. Our choice of food was the dinner buffet so that we got to try a little of everything. Briyani Rice- It didn't taste like it should. It almost tasted like plain rice with chicken. There is a food truck south Austin that has Briyani Rice and it’s 50x’s better!!!! Butter Chicken- This was pretty good. It had flavor and was enjoyable. This was probably my favorite item. Samosas- The samosas were way too big. They would have been more enjoyable if they were smaller in size. Because of how big they were, the moister from the filling didn’t allow for the Samosa to maintain crispness on the outside. Goat Curry- The goat was enjoyable. It was very tender. The sauce however lacked flavor. It was like it almost had no flavor. Goat also isn’t for everyone due to its unique flavor. So if you ever try goat and don’t like it, just keep in mind, goat may not be for you. Basmati Rice-This tasted like plain rice. It was missing its Basmati oomph. Maybe it just wasn’t cooked with bay leaves and cloves like usual. This may be why it tasted so plain. Pineapple- They had fresh cut pineapple. Who doesn’t like fresh fruit right!? Well sadly it was disappointing. It was the most unripe pineapple! It lacked that wonderful sweet pineapple flavor. You could simply tell it wasn’t going to be good as it didn’t have that beautiful yellow color to it. It was a pale yellow color. Chai- You may know this as Chai Tea. Whenever ordering Chai, I always ask if it’s made with water or milk. Star of India unfortunately makes it with water. This takes away from the authenticity and flavor of the Chai. Just think of it as Hot Cocoa with milk vs water. Big difference in flavor! Fun fact, when you say Chai Tea, you are pretty much calling it Tea Tea. So next time you order Chai, leave off the Tea part. Service was excellent! The wait staff were very attentive!"
"For Indians not the place to eat, especially South Indians. Owner was very kind and friendly. The food was alright, the naan was too thick and unbaked in places. There were also times the naan was brittle. The saag was good although there could have been more vegetarian options. As for dessert, the kheer was good, the mango puree was too sweet, the cookie was terrible. Mango lassi was good. Place was crowded so it obviously they are doing something good. A nice place although not suited to South Indians."
"I love this restaurant. I've been coming here for at least 15 years. The restaurant is both menu and buffet. I almost exclusively do the buffet. In a word, "amazing!" The food is extremely fresh and well prepared. More importantly they keep a careful eye on the buffet so they can keep it refreshed. If Indian food is off-putting to you, try this place, it could possibly change your mind. Today, I'm doing a beef Jazeera with rice. The principle sides are saag paneer (spinach in a yogurt sauce with cheese (paneer)) and a deep fried spinach for some crunch. My selection today was extremely good. Let me end by talking about the ice tea. By far the best ice tea I've ever had. I could drink it by the gallon."
"I tried the lunch buffet and it was delicious. Great variety, tasty dishes, and very fresh. The service was also excellent and free refills on the iced tea without even asking. Will definitely go back."
