"A few months ago I brought my car in for an alignment and the car was given back to me significantly worse than it was before, so bad that I could smell my tire burning as I drove it- toe was super messed up, and I got the car back at closing time, so had to upend my plans for the weekend and bring the car back first thing in the morning. Wasn’t even given the printout. I admit that I was a bit hot headed when I came back, but the manager said he’d make it right and fix it himself. Equipment didn’t get calibrated I guess. I get it, some techs don’t know calibration procedures or sometimes something just messes up. I’ve worked with tire balancers for example and they can be the same way. He fixed it best he could and went over the print out with me, all good, it’s been driving fine for a few months, but I was just under my car this weekend to check out an unrelated problem and noticed that he didn’t undo the clips on the steering rack bellows before adjusting the tie rods, and so they got all twisted up during the alignment, which accelerated the wear on the bellows to the point that one of them is completely torn in half and both bellows need to be replaced if I want to keep my steering rack from being ruined by road grime and dust and dirt getting into the joints and seals. Mind you this is my weekend car, so over the few months since this alignment, I’ve only driven it maybe a few hundred miles. Having to replace bellows on a new steering rack that has only a few thousand miles on it is pretty disappointing but at least it’s an easy fix I can do at home. Money and time that I shouldn’t have to be spending if this was done right though, and the car will need yet another alignment after this repair, which I won’t be getting done at NTB again. I hate being the guy that stands outside and watches techs work on my car, but I guess if you want it done right, you gotta babysit the guys working on your car to make sure they don’t get lazy or screw you over. It’s a bummer because I like NTB’s yearly alignment package they sell, as this is my project car and I mess with the suspension and need alignments fairly often. Hopefully I can find a different shop that offers something similar."
