"One of the best and most relaxed sushi restaurants in Austin! Tucked away in the plaza by the Alamo Draft House, we came here for the first time after an early movie and were shocked how amazing the experience was! The dining room always feels comfortable, no matter how many people are there, and you can usually get a table with minimum wait which makes this a perfect date spot you don't have to plan far in advance. You have two options for ordering: Off the menu - where the abundance of choices will certainly please any palate; or you can ask the owner (Tiffany) to order for you based on your preferences and hunger level. This is usually a bit more expensive, but totally worth it as the creative and delicious options will have you asking for repeats of certain dishes. The owner is a wonderful woman with a quick wit and even quicker smile. She can easily become a friend before you finish dinner and will remember you every time you come back. A couple of pro tips: 1) Early in the week you'll have no problem walking right in for dinner. 2) Lunch is awesome and they have amazing bento boxes as well. 3) They serve beer and saki here with amazing options for the latter. 4) As mentioned, this place is amazing for dates, but I've impressed several clients with the quality of the food and would put it on par with anywhere in Austin, NYC, or LA."

"Tatsumi Sushi left a lasting impression on my taste buds with its delectable and fresh sushi. The restaurant's inviting atmosphere, accompanied by eclectic electric music, set the stage for a delightful dining experience. The A5 Mizayaki roll surprised me with the delightful smoky notes of truffle oil. While the food presentation was beautiful, I wished the plates had been lighter to showcase the dishes more vividly. The interior boasted tasteful decor and cleanliness, contributing to the overall pleasant ambiance. The staff's attentiveness further elevated the experience, making the meal more enjoyable. I arrived right at the opening, and it was evident that the restaurant quickly filled up, attesting to its popularity. "Tiffany, the owner, welcomed us immediately with first class service, even though we were a group of 15 people (11 adults and 4 toddlers). I am pregnant and have a two year old. We both cannot eat anything raw. Tiffany made special rolls for us off the menu, so we could have a five star experience! They were true sushi rolls cooked in the oven or grilled thoroughly - delicious. She also gave us a full chef experience by bringing our whole party dish after dish of the best on the house. Everything was absolutely delicious and an experience I’ll never forget! This will now be our go-to sushi place. Cannot wait to go back again soon! Fully recommended."

"Tatsumi blew away our expectations. My wife and I's favorite food is nigiri, and we've tried many locations in Austin throughout the years. Tatsumi is now our top choice, and our new place to go, by far. The quality of the fish is unmatched, and the preparation and presentation are flawless. Beyond the experience that the food itself delivered, the staff is amazing. Tiffany was very welcoming, attentive, and a joy to converse with. Elvin, the head chef, took his time to explain the different nigiris in detail, where they source the fish, etc.. He also matched his recommendations to what we liked. Of course, the several nigiri we ordered based on his recommendations were our favorite! The scallop nigiri surprised us (we’ve had scallop nigiri before, but never like this!), and the Uni was the best we’ve ever had. We couldn’t stop talking about the food and the staff on our way back home. This wasn’t just dinner. It was a culinary experience."

Definitely try the Gary's roll, we did on the chefs recommendation and it was amazing. Maybe the best roll we'd ever had.
