"It was good. Different shacks have different cooks, still better enchiladas than most. I would have enjoyed a bigger serving of rice than beans and homemade tortillas for the price for two plates and two drinks. Still we were hungry after a doctor appt, and it went down nice and warm! Mom took my beans home with her leftovers...nuff said."
"It's sad. Been going to various Taco Shack locations since their bean and cheese tacos were two for a dollar on Wednesdays, and .89 cents regularly. This location, on Lamar across from Central Market, has lost it's way with the food. The tacos are no longer served hot. Honest, I'm not exaggerating. The tortillas are waved gently near a griddle I suppose, and are not warm, but essentially taste and feel like store bought tortillas right off the shelf. The taco ingredients themselves are not hot, and are served from a storage board. If you add cheese, none of the ingredients, nor the tortilla, are hot enough to melt any of the cheese. Because of nostalgia I suppose, we've kept going. But enough is enough. I think they have a built in audience because of location, or maybe Texas transplants are continuing to flock there as they just don't know any better. Parenthetically - it's sad."
"These tacos are basic as hell, so I’m only giving 1 star. First off the tacos were luke warm, not even fresh. Second, they didn’t give me what I asked for and when I told them that, the big ugly girl wearing glasses immediately got an attitude and said she didn’t take my order. It doesn’t matter! Y’all are supposed to be a team, so it was everyone’s mistake. Lastly, to the new lady working the register, please learn your job before trying to get cute about an order that y’all messed up. I promise you can find better breakfast tacos elsewhere, please don’t waste your time here."
"August 2023: With the Taco Shack Bowl high school game at night my wife and I decided to start the day by having lunch at Taco Shack. It has been a long while since I have been here and she never been here. This place is not close to our home but it was a short drive. The place was busy with a long drive-thru line but did find a parking spot. Inside this old shack was an extensive menu of choices. There was plenty of seating and ordered a Chicken Fajita Taco with a side of Mexican Rice. The staff was very friendly and the place has great atmosphere. It did not take long to get our order. The chicken taco was wrapped in a four tortilla and was delicious . It has nice flavor along with the rice. I see why the line of cars outside never got shorter or stream of people walking in. Austin definitely has the best taco spots and Taco Shack is one of them."
"I love this place and have been coming here going on 13 years. It is where I was introduced to chorizo and salsa verde. While my palette has significantly expanded I still come back to this location time and again The service is excellent. The staff have been there forever. The food is always good. I always get the taco breakfast bowl; chorizo, egg, cheese, onion, cilantro, and avocado - ALWAYS worth their salsa verde. Yummmm"
