"Finally made it out to la Barbecue. Austin, Texas is truly lucky to have so many good barbecue spots. We ordered a pound of moist brisket, housemade jalapeno sausage, shells & cheese (you cant get enough of this stuff), potato salad, and spicy garlic pickles. Overall very delicious barbecue! "Probably the best barbecue I've ever had. It's a must if you end up in Austin. There will be a line, you should wait in it. It goes decently fast and it is well worth the wait. You will not be disappointed when you use the fork to try and get a piece of brisket to you plate, but it falls apart before it reaches your plate. It's amazing."
"1/13/2024 la Barbecue 2401 E Cesar Chavez Austin, TX 78702 We were taken here by our Austin host on a Saturday about a half hour before they opened to avoid waiting. We were able to be second to enter the order and pick up area. Only one party is permitted to enter at a time. You order from a large menu card at the counter and pay. Our selections were prepared at the same counter and plopped on a large butcher paper layered tray. We decided to eat outside where there was a station of folded butcher paper for plates, setups and water. We ordered the Brisket, Beef Rib, Pork Ribs, Jalapeno Sausage and a couple of sides. All the meats were very moist, fall of the bone and fall apart tender. The Brisket was impressively moist through the entire cut. The sausage was very tasty and juicy. The smoke level was on the mild side. The rub crusts were on the salty side and my preference would be more brown sugar and Cayenne pepper for heat. The available sauces were vinegary and unremarkable but one doesn't really need them. By the time we left there was a long line waiting to order. The quality of the meats was exceptional. This one of the best BBQ places I have experienced although I would prefer a slight adjustment to the rubs. Definitely repeatable."
"We almost didn’t make it to this one on our trip. After 3 days and 6 other BBQ joints…it was hard to power through our last day of BBQ but OMG we are glad we did. Locals told us to go here and for good reason. The meats were some of the best we had in town (certainly on par with Franklin) and we loved the spunky and artsy decor. The bathrooms are NOT an afterthought. Nothing here is. Everything is hand crafted and they have a pickle menu! The meat: you have to get the jalapeño cheddar sausage, brisket, and the pork ribs. If you have room for more…add in the turkey and pulled pork. The sausage was perfection and the pork ribs were so BIG and meaty we could hardly stand it. The brisket had killer peppery bark and great smoke. They also had the best sauces of all the places we ate. One was a red sauce and the other was mustard, plus jalapeños and a thin orange mild sauce. We had the slaw, mac, potato salad and pickles. The sides were good. The slaw is very good and unique but a little too much black pepper for us. It would have been nice to have something cool and creamy to balance the flavorful meats. Counter service (wait outside until they call you in), indoor and outdoor seating. Awesome merch! Highly recommend this Austin gem. ETA: we got there at 10:15 on a Friday. There was one other person but by the time they opened a small line had formed so be prepared for a little wait (and you wait outside so dress accordingly!). They also offered samples of brisket when we came in which was nice. And they had FRITOS. I love Fritos. Good service and food!"
"This place was better than I expected. very good brisket but not quite my favorite in Austin..I appreciated that they had Chili. It seems that so few places do. Ribs were good too. I would go back."
