Reviews of Bourbon Sizzler
"If I could give a 3.8 star rating I would and here's why: * The jerk chicken was great seasoned well and not under or overcooked but I didn't understand them not having jerk wings available since it is a Caribbean restaurant but the chicken was good so a win is a win on that. * Rice and peas were fine and not over/uncooked either but thankfully I ordered oxtail gravy which literally made it amazing! * Plantains were top tier! Love a good sweet savory plantain and that made the meal not overall not so great because for the next one.. * Cabbage gave very much high blood pressure immediately. No exaggeration, it tasted as if they made the cabbage in saltwater literally. 0/10 for the cabbage without a doubt. * Price point was great for the amount of food received. * Delivery packaging could be much better (sticker, seal or even double knotting the bags for safety purposes).β’ I ordered from UberEats"
"First visit to this restaurant I aimed for the jerk chicken plate, but they only had wings available. I accepted it without knowing they were just fried wings with a hint of jerk sauce on top. A bit of upfront explanation from the cashier would have helped because I would have chosen something else. The wings were stale and dry. I was too tired to drive back and make any refund attempt. The rice and peas lacked flavor, and the coco bread was heated up in a microwave. Disappointing for a Caribbean food enthusiast like me."
"Mannnnn! (in my Big Moe voice) If you have not been to this spot please do yourself a favor and go. My first time visiting and I am in love. I ordered curry chicken, cabbage, plantain, rice, and peas. It was freaking phenomenal. I finished my entire plate. I had 2 Hurricane drinks which were strong. Don't sleep on this place."
"A few takeaways from our first & probably last visit... 1) Drinks.... The Long Islands had too much cola. I ordered 3 because everything else seemed really sweet. BUT... for $5 during Happy Hour, I can't really complain too much. And the bartender girl was sweet. 2) Food.... While the food was decently flavored (not delicious enough for me to go out of my way to return but not completely forgettable either), both our oxtails AND stewed chicken came out pretty much room temperature. I considered sending it back but didn't want to offend the chef (he happened to step out as we were ordered & he seems cool) so we just ate what we could & took the rest to heat properly at home. 3) "SERVICE CHARGE" ---- When I went to pay, the total seemed a little higher than it should have been so I asked to view the itemized & discovered there was a 10% "Service Charge" - when I inquired with our waiter, he informed me that charge automatically gets added to every ticket over $50. That makes ZERO sense to me - the more I buy, the higher my service charge??? What??? The service fee also made me tip our server 15% instead of my usual 20-25% which sucks for their staff. It's unfortunate because we passionately support local, minority owned businesses but I can't get over the tomfoolery of the theory behind that service fee. I was really hoping this could become a good watering hole for us to become regulars. Pro Tip: If my daughter & I ever do decide to return, we'll be paying separately to avoid the unnecessary foolishness of a service fee & will instead tip our server well."
