"Such a cool place, kind of? As a restaurant consultant I have to be honest. Saturday 5:15pm. After convincing the hostess (I got the, we are fully booked routine when the place was empty) I just wanted a quick bite and drink I got sat at the far end off an empty bar and was told I need to vacate in two hours! Quick bite on my own?! I felt like the guy who wasn't supposed to be there. I then watched two staff chatting and after two or three minutes one came to greet me. Sounds fast; not when you are on your own in a completely empty bar! Once she got to me she was very friendly. I then asked about a "crispy" food item saying I didn't like deep fried, thought it might be like a slightly crispy pot sticker. I was told it was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle but didn't taste deep fried. It was deep fried and tasted like it. To be fair, the presentation was floorless. Looked amazing. Small but amazing. So in summation, beautifully designed space, friendly staff when you get their attention, messed up by bad, or no, training. I will be back and hope this was an anomaly. PS. I'm on my own so had time to write this because the staff did not engage me at all. Now I'm leaving (6pm) and guess what? The bar is still completely empty!"
"Went for a birthday and it was impressive. We ordered quite a few items from the menu and shared among our group. I would say I was disappointed in particular with $10 spring roll appetizer and it came out with one slim roll sliced in 5 small pieces. $2/bite of a simple spring roll felt bad. I also felt the server could have let us know it was only one as we were sharing amongst 4 adults. However, the food was very good even though the portions felt very small. The atmosphere was beautiful and the service was perfect. The flavors were bright and impactful and creative - we loved everything we ate. We would go again for sure and I would like to spend more time upstairs in the bar/lounge. Overall totally worth it. ~R Gracey Owner Great Houston Properties Real Estate"
"We went to sway after we saw that it was their five-year anniversary, and they were bringing back favorite dishes to celebrate. We ordered: - Pad Gra Prow (tofu) - this was an anniversary menu entree, and we thought it would be interesting to try. This is usually my BF favorite dish at Thai restaurants, but this one fell short, lacking texture and depth. - Son in Law - this is the classic dish that we will return for. The pork belly is cooked to perfection and the egg is magical! - Jungle curry with Wagyu beef - this was the most disappointing dish of all. Our beef was stringy and tough, inedible. Would not recommend. We love Thai food, and there are other Austin Thai restaurants that knock it out of the park every time."
"We went to Sway Thai tonight. I had a delicious Thai iced tea which had a hint of chai in it, one of the best I’ve ever had. We started with fried brisket dumplings and steamed chicken and mushroom dumplings with a chili crunch. The brisket was extremely tender and the chicken mushroom dumplings had a nice kick with the chili. My girlfriend had the chicken pad thai which was some of the most flavorful noodles around, but the chili flakes on top may have done her in (next time she’s ordering without those) and I got their signature dish, the “son in-law” which is pork shoulder over rice with a fried runny egg with the fried garlic flakes on top. One of the best dishes I’ve had in Austin so far. For dessert, we tried the condensed milk ice cream, which tasted more tart than sweet, interesting if you’re going for a more complex ice cream flavor. We also tried the sweet potato (purple yam and orange sweet potato) donut holes, which were also one of the most unusual desserts we’ve ever had. Also not sweet enough to fulfill a sweettooth’s desire, but certainly one of the most original desserts I’ve ever had. Definitely would go back and try the fried rice and some of their double fried chicken wings which we saw on pretty much every other table. Service was very good and vibes were immaculate. 9/10 overall"
"Food is always delicious! You can taste that umami flavor in each bite of every plate. We've been coming here for six years and we always leave so satisfied! I highly recommend it for any occasion, especially if you're trying to impress a special someone!"
