"It's a very interesting atmosphere. When you first get there though, be prepared to be confused. There's a giant line for those who already have a table and no line to put your name in for a table but you have to pass the first line to get to the latter. We went by the cellar to get a glass of wine while we waited so it was a pleasant wait. The brisket, fantastic... The beef ribs so good. Pulled pork amazing. The sides were ... Eh... Oh but the sausages were great! It's really about the experience :)"

"Over the years we have been to Salt Lick BVQ several times when camping in the area. This location is worth the drive not only for the food, but far the atmosphere. Family style dining, with outside entertainment under the oak trees. It is BYOB and they have a spot in another building to purchase beer and wine. We had the brisket, ribs, and sausage. The brisket and sausage were our favorites."

"The BBQ here was great! The smoker was amazing to see, as we had seen it on TV. The only thing that I wish is they would have more choices when it comes to sides. They only offer Baked Beans and Potato Salad. The Baked Beans taste more like Pinto Beans (Soup Beans) and the Potato Salad needed more flavor. Other than that, the meat is amazing!"

"Salt Lick has solid BBQ and a great atmosphere. I’ve been there three times and have had a pleasant experience every time. I’ve tried the sliced brisket, chopped brisket, sausage, and turkey. The chopped brisket is my top pick, and the burnt ends are delicious. After eating, I recommend taking a walk around the grounds. They have several buildings, a couple of pits, tall old trees, garden, vineyard, and lots of outdoor seating. It’s beautiful, and they also have a cellar there with a serene patio if you enjoy wine. As for the argument of whether it’s worth it or not, that’s totally subjective. I’ve had my fair share of BBQ and am well educated in the matter. I find Salt Lick to be a good pick and it’s worth the wait every time I’m in the area. At the bare minimum, it’s good BBQ, kind service, and a cool place to wander around. If you’ve never been to TX hill country, plan to add a couple more stops to your list like a brewery or olive farm. It’ll make the journey more worthwhile."
