Reviews of Harold’s Bistro, Bar & Market
"We visited last Sunday for brunch on the patio given the nice weather. The drinks were excellent. We had the pitcher of sangria. When it came to food the menu was a little underwhelming and even moreso if you don't eat meat. Our server was doing his best but it just didn't feel like he was set up for success and well trained. For this price point I'd expect more from the food and servers. We had a paper thin pizza, pitcher of sangria and side of fries. Our total was about $75 with the automatic gratuity for our party of seven included. Underwhelming experience overall."
"Maybe this place is better at night but lunch was a mess. There was one other couple here at the time so maybe I should have taken that as a sign? The waiter wasn’t friendly and never smiled. For a place that touts “southern hospitality”, y’all have some work to do. I ordered the fish and chips and my husband got a poboy. Both were very subpar. The batter and the fish were mushy and the fries were wet. They had been in oil far too long, and the oil wasn’t hot enough. Clearly. Whoever was cooking that day needs a lesson in frying. And the Dr Pepper is disgusting. It taste like diet cherry coke or something. After eating here, I decided to read the reviews and quite a few talked about the strong cherry flavor of drinks so obviously this is an issue that needs to be remedied. Just be safe and ask for a can. On our way out no one said bye or thank you. And we still never got a smile. The service industry is brutal these days."
"The weather in Houston was good so we had outside seating. The service was really good, our server checked in on us, was patient with us ordering for the first time. Food was good, a bit under seasoned but overall a good atmosphere to take a date or grab a drink and hang out with friends."
"I have to say right off the bat, our server was amazing and the atmosphere was great. But the food, oh man, the food. It sucked, especially for the price. The fried chicken was crispy, but lacked any kind of flavour at all. The fries were ok, but for almost $30 I was surprised at how bad the fried chicken was. It would have been fine if it was half the price. Honestly, if you want fried chicken, go to Gus's; it's nearly half the price and triple the flavour. Also, the coke tasted weird. The normal and diet coke had some kind of cherry hint to them. Was not a fan at all."
"Another HRW23 venture. We ate downstairs in the bar/lounge area because upstairs was super busy. The bar top was dirty and the bartender seemed a bit overwhelmed when we arrived. She cleaned it up right away and took good care of us. The food was tasty and the drink menu was very interesting. They have unique liquor offerings and it was a nice relaxing atmosphere. There were sitting areas to just chat and have a drink if you didn't want to sit at the bar and I really liked that, very homey feel. We had shrimp and grits and Fried Chicken and Mash with Chcolate layer cake and Granny Cake for dessert, everything was super tasty."
