Reviews of Yi Peng Thai Dining
"Fantastic place. Very friendly waitstaff, well seasoned food. Great sized portions."
"First time there. Wonderful reviews. We ordered Chicken Satay & Three flavor ribs as appetizers. The Satay was Luke warm at best but tasted good and excellent peanut sauce. The ribs were hot and excellent. My wife got the Volcano prawns and they were excellent. I got Pad Si-ew Tofu. It was excellent. Went to restroom to wash my hands after ribs and the trash can was full and nasty from lunch service. I asked a staff member to check it."
"quaint little Thai restaurant with amazing food. we started with the open face shrimp dumplings and 3 flavor ribs. then had the drunken noodles with beef and the bang bang chicken. everything was so flavorful. we will be back."
"Nice ambiance, contemporary interior, attentive services. Tried the 2023 Houston Restaurant Week lunch ($25/pax, 2 courses). The crispy spring rolls are delicious. Dipping sauce well-made. The braised beef is good; the lad-na noodle slightly salty."
"Kicked off 2023 Houston Restaurant Week at Yi Peng. I had two friends join me, so we decided to try a couple different things on the dinner menu and share. First course: Crispy Pork Belly - The meat was a little overcooked, but the sauce and plating was perfect. Crab Cake - My friend ordered this, and I had a bite and could not stop. It was delicious! A bit on the spicy side with the chili aioli, but tolerable. Highly recommend. Main course: Cast Iron Beef Noodle - Careful, it's hot! The server has a special demonstration for mixing the beef with the noodle (see video). The sauce is a bit on the sweet side, but it makes for a unique taste. The beef is very thinly sliced, but also a bit overcooked. Wish the pieces were a bit smaller so it didn't take much to chew apart. High Flame Wok Curry - The shrimp was very tender and the sauce dry curry was an interesting concept. Again, my friend ordered this and wish I had chosen the same. Dessert: Rice Pudding - It's got an interesting texture and composition. Not your typical rice pudding. I'm going to take a guess that it's coconut milk with purple rice and purple sweet potatoes topped with thin taro chips. Not sure how they were able to get taro chips into twig format without breakage; very impressed with the presentation of this dessert, but not so much with the taste. For once, "not too sweet" is not a compliment. It was a bit on the bland side given rice and coconut milk both need more sugar to enhance taste. Also, would not recommend ordering this if you were feeling full after the first two courses; this is more of a heavy dessert and the portion is relatively large. Vanilla Float - Vanilla ice cream paired with Thai tea. Drooling just at the description? Yep, I was the same. Definitely recommend this dessert! Again, it was my friend who ordered this so I had to stop myself. What can I say, I have friends with good/better taste? Haha... Overall, I would still say my first Houston Restaurant Week experience since the pandemic was very positive. Although there is some room for improvement, Yi Peng is a good restaurant worthy of a try. The service is top notch, and the space is perfect for intimate meals or group celebrations. I made a reservation ahead of time and was seated immediately upon arrival in a relatively private corner, which was perfect. And our server would check in with us consistently to make sure we're taken care of and top off our water cups. Thanks to everyone for this great experience!"
