Reviews of Scholars and Scoundrels Bar and Grill
"I have been to this location several times and everything was always great however this last time going some things have changed drastically. The service and atmosphere are still good however the food has really gone downhill. They use to have a fairly decent variety of food and for some reason the menu has literally been cut down by two thirds which removed alot of their GOOD food including their chicken items. This time we ordered the queso which became cold and hard rather quickly as well as having over cooked hard chips with it and very little salsa. We also had a couple of burgers which the meat was very dry and had NO flavor, fries were ok I guess. Really doubt we'll be going back. Guess it explains why the place was rather empty when we went this time."
"I absolutely love this sports bar but not this location!!! They only have half the menu and they don’t have anything but the basic ketchup sauce. The service is even worse than the food. Everyone seemed to have an attitude and was far from welcoming. We were told to seat ourselves and order from the bar but when we did we were asked to move. Unlike the other locations the burgers were very dry and had no flavor. The buns were not cooked as well. We had a party of 6 and they brought half the food out and didn’t bring the other half for 15mins. I was very unhappy with this location and will not be returning."
"We arrived before wait staff, apparently. A sign notified us that all service would be at the bar, so we sat there. 20 minutes later, more staff arrived and people were being served at the tables. Just FYI. . We were greeted by the bartender, who made us drinks, then took our app order. We had the fried pickles, which were terrific. However, the young man who brought the dish did not also bring napkins (which you need when eating greasy food). . A different bartender/waitress took our food order. I had a very good burger and my wife had a BLT wrap that she liked. Again, the young man delivered the dishes and then sped away. The fries could have used some salt, but there was no one to ask for quite a while. . Over all, the service was fine but it seemed they were understaffed. Sign of the times, I fear. . We had purposely arrived well before an important Texans game, because we have little interest after years of disappointment. The large number of TVs clearly attracted those interested in the game. A continent of regulars sat with us at the bar, clearly enjoying each other with comradery. I think this would be a swell place to frequent if you live easily proximate."
"Our server acted like she was being held hostage to work there. We had to personally get up to get water refills anytime we wanted it. (I know right now you're thinking it must have been busy calm down, fella .) We were the second table there and the other table was right next to ours, and get this she had to pass our table to get to them but was still more worried about that table cause they had 5 people and we only had 3. All food had no flavor from the burgers to their B.L.T. we got an appetizer with fries that came with meat and cheese on it, no flavor. We asked to order fried pickles, and the waitress, when she got back to the kitchen window looked at us, rolled her eyes, and the cooks and manager looked at us like we asked them to create a flying donky. We could tell cause we were 4 steps away from the kitchen and still couldn't get service. If someone tells me they are going there and invites me and will pay for me and get me drinks, I still won't go. Presentation will fool you."
"So here's my rundown, tried 4 different appetizers... The food was meh. Definitely enjoyed the fried zucchini and I don't like veggies, so that was nice; feel fried mashed potato balls were okay, but lacked anything to make them special; the kitchen sink nachos were actually kind of disappointing- they literally threw everything at them, which made them lack a particular characteristic, 3 big parts of nachos the chips, the newest and the cheese, they baked the chips but fell flat on the other 2; also has the "crack and cheese", not at all addictive. All that being said, great drink prices, great atmosphere- I felt very relaxed here, staff was very fast and friendly and seemed relaxed as well, which actually speaks volumes of good things about management. I will definitely be back again, and bring family and friends as I want to try some entrees and some of their extensive mixed drinks. Update: went again, tried more apps, these guys rock on fried veggies, whether green beans, zucchini, or pickles. They also absolutely elevate their game with their variety of sauces. Also, order the Chicky Chicky Parm Parm, it's AMAZING!"
