Reviews of Roland's Jamaica Chicken
"I had Roland’s for the first time today. I ordered via Uber Eats so I can’t rate the dine-in experience. I ordered the oxtails, rice & peas, cabbage, and plantains. It was so good and fresh. The rice wasn’t dry and clumped up. There was a good portion of oxtail and gravy. The cabbage was well seasoned also. The plantains were good but they didn’t taste as fresh as everything else. They included a small side of oxtail gravy and scotch bonnet hot sauce, without my request. They also included utensils in my bag. I only mention that because lately my orders (from other restaurants) never have utensils and it usually food that definitely needs a spoon or fork. So thank you Roland’s. Will definitely try this place again."
"10/10 I would highly recommend. My first visit here. Although, I got my order to go, the atmosphere was clean and wasn't packed at all. The staff was friendly and quick to assist. I ordered the jerk chicken with yams and collard greens. The chicken was so flavorful without the sauce. It was juicy and tender. The sides were equally as delicious. I will definitely be back! Tried the oxtails on the latest visit. They were tender & flavorful."
"Before trekking back down 1-35, we stopped at Roland's Jamaican Chicken (RJC) for a bite of the West Indies. We're happy to say it was worth the stop. RJC is in a strip mall off Belt Line Rd within minutes of DFW. I recommend it if you have a long layover and can stop in. When we arrived at about 11:30AM, only one woman staff member took to-go and dine-in orders. While simultaneously jotting down orders, she would have to stop to pack an order, check out someone dining in, and attempt to seat new arrivals like us. She did so with patience and grace, which we returned. It took her a while to get to us, but she was very polite when she did. I appreciated the clean, spacious, and minimally decorated interior. TVs on the walls give you something to watch while you're waiting. Eventually, two more servers showed up to help with the lunch rush. We ordered a beef patty and coco bread to start, along with sorrel and Kola Champagne to drink. The beef patty wasn't homemade. It tasted like the frozen beef patties I ate growing up in NYC. But that doesn't mean I disliked the beef patty; it just wasn't over-the-top impressive. The coco bread tasted stale and of the plastic film it was wrapped in. Making the coco bread the same morning will minimize extended contact with the plastic while the coco bread is under the warming lamps. This will fix that plastic taste I experienced. For our entrees, we ordered the curried goat and chose rice and peas with steamed cabbage (2 sides come with the entrees) and oxtail with mac and cheese and plantains. The mac and cheese was an additional charge, and after tasting it, it wasn't worth the additional money. It had a strong flavor of MSG or something similar; it was also unnaturally orange. It wasn't the worst mac and cheese, but it wasn't pleasant. I wouldn't order it if I returned. The oxtail and curried goat were absolutely divine. AND THEY GAVE ME EXTRA GRAVY without making me feel like I slapped their mother. IYKYK. The oxtail was plump, big, and fall-off-the-bone tender. The curried goat was also tender and not at all gamey. The rice and peas were okay. I just wish it had more coconut flavor and a smidge more spice. The cabbage was addicting. I would probably order two portions of that if I go back. Plantains are plantains, so they're not difficult to mess up unless you're trying. I recommend RJC and will stop back next time we're "up north.""
"This was my first time ordering from Roland's due to a recommendation from a coworker. I ordered the beef patty as well as chicken stew with rice and fried plantains as sides. Everything was well seasoned, but the stew had a bit more oil than I anticipated. Still tasty however. Add you can see from the pictures, the portion sizes are generous. I recommend trying Roland's if craving Jamaican cuisine. 1/6/2024 update: I ordered from Roland's again and this time tried the Jamaican jerk chicken and Jamaican curry chicken. As you can see from the pictures, their portion sizes are generous. Each dish was nicely flavored and seasoned. I'll definitely be ordering from here again."
"I intended this to be a 5 star review, considering I came here a week before for the 1st time & as a picky eater I had zero complaints since everything was beyond satisfactory, including the food portions, the quality & the customer service from the girls. Today I got some pretty dry chicken which I had to peel the skin off in order to make the meat feasible, they give u extra gravy but the chicken was too dried out for it to make any difference..I didn’t need the sauce before so I prefer mines w/o. I also had to ask the male employee 3x to exclude any juice from my yams, reason being the extra syrup makes them too sweet & I also don’t like it spilled all over my other foods. Hoping for a better experience because I will definitely be back, but only on the exact day/time that I originally came & received top notch service!"
