Barley Bean Coffee

"Probably the worst chicken on chicken and waffles I’ve ever had. I’m pretty sure they were microwaved Tyson chicken strips. “Buttermilk fried chicken” as it says on the menu is a joke. Waffles were good though."

"Fantastic first trip to Barley Bean! Had seen it pop up numerous times when searching for a coffee shop, but I kept writing it off as it seemed like it was missing the small local shop charm. However, everyone working there was super helpful, welcoming, and kind to us. My partner doesn't drink coffee but loves matcha and they went out of their way to help figure which seasonal drink would pair best with a matcha. Both our drinks were above and beyond equally beautiful and delicious. We had some food too which was good but could have been more seasoned. The atmosphere was chill with people just eating/drinking, working on laptops and like us, playing board games. We saw another review that showed the owners lowered prices as a reflection of the market, and we just kept talking about how cool it was to see a company be fair and honest about their pricing. We go to a different coffee shop every weekend, but already planned to return here next weekend instead! Must try!!"

"$9.75 Orange Blossom Latte + $1.25 Oat Milk + 8.25% Tax + Tip. The specialty coffees on the menu are listed as $6.50? The menu should have more price transparency and I read the whole thing over, including signage by the drinks. Never in my life have I paid for a $13+ coffee. I would have canceled the order if I noticed sooner. And it was lukewarm! Which for a hot coffee drinker is devastating... Update: To be clear, the staff were very nice and welcoming. I wouldn’t think twice about not tipping them for their work. I also don’t doubt the quality of the products. I just do not think it is worth the cost. (And this is coming from someone who does have a comfortable income to afford these things...) Stick with the Americano."

"Their new pricing is just right. When we had first gone here, the lattes were priced at over $8. Now they are much more reasonable and have earned themselves new regulars just by dropping the prices on the lattes. They decorated for the holidays, which is a real treat as not many places in Austin do that. We love their lattes and enjoy that they switch up the flavors seasonally. The food is really good too!"

"Great spot to grab delicious coffee! Very impressed with my latte... and I had a vegan bagel with "cream cheese", avocado, tomato, cucumber, spinach and red onion... trust me when I say it was drool worthy!! Tried the Impossible biscuit today!! Soooo delicious!! This spot is fantastic!!"
