Mikki's Soulfood Cafe 9603 Broadway Street, Pearland, TX 77584

"I went into Mikki’s today with my family to pick up freshly fried fish. We called before hand, and spoke to management, and we confirmed that 1) fried fish was offered and 2) that the fish could be fried fresh. We were ensured it could, but there would be a 15 minute wait. Upon our arrival we asked for 4 fillets of fish and pre-prepared fish was brought out. Once brought out, the man taking our order then attempted to stuff the four fillets into one takeout container (unsuccessfully) before taking it to the cashier. We then reiterated that we wanted the fish cooked fresh, and they insisted it was cooked 2 minutes ago. If that was true, it must have been put in the fridge or freezer afterwards. Once handed the “fresh” fish, we were able to confirm it was not hot. When we got home, after a less than 10 minutes drive, we also confirmed that the fish was barely warm. I can’t say I’ll be back."

"Got baked chicken, yams, green beans, take out. Green beens great, yams good. Chicken was bizarre, weird white hue. Rubbery, stretchy skin, tendons tight. The baked chicken is bad. Haven’t tried any other entrees."

"All the while were in Houston, the big rave ... it was just as good as any other "Soul Food" restaurant. I had the Turkey Wings with Collard Greens & Cabbage, another in our party had Ox Tails, Yams & Collard. If asked the question "Was there any special about this restaurant" ? The andwer would honestly be no, not to be mistaken for not being good, but as I said before it was just as good any other ......"

"What a surprisingly awesome experience. I stopped here for the first time and tried the Ox tail in a sauce/gravy with two sides, greenbeans w/t bacon and potatoes. Also had collard greens w/t bacon and pieces of ham hocks. Also tried the candied yams. My guests also had the Hurricane daiquiri and the melon bomb cocktail,needless to say, both were very good. This restaurant has a cafeteria style setting when you walk in and you pick what you want as you walk through. Plenty of food is served on a Styrofoam plate, and you have the option to eat here or take it with you. There is also a private dining room area you can call ahead for reservation or booking and to discuss the color scheme you prefer. I believe the private dining area can accommodate up to 35 people. They also do catering."
