"We were visiting Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino for my husband's birthday. We had seen The Wagon Wheel Restaurant on Elder Eats TV show. So, since we were in Eagle Pass, we decided to try it out. They did not disappoint! It's a small family owned restaurant. But, don't let the size of the place fool you! The food is first class! The portions are more than generous. At first glance, you may think that the prices are too high. But when you get your food, you will change your mind. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak meal, and he loved it. It is a huge steak. It was perfectly fried. But the main thing is how they marinate and season the meat. The steak was fork tender. He has a hearty appetite. But he could not even finish half of the steak! As sides, he went with the mashed potatoes and the chicharron mac and cheese. They were first class! My nephew had the chopped brisket sandwich with chips. I didn't think it was going to be enough for him. But, again, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a half pound of the best brisket he had ever had. I don't eat big meals, so I went for the baked potato. They loaded a huge potato with cheese, half a pound of chopped brisket, and then topped it with more cheese! Needless to say, I had to get a doggie bag for half of it. My husband brought home half of his meal also. The staff was very friendly and attentive! The atmosphere was very homey. It felt like going to a family barbecue! We highly recommend The Wagon Wheel! Just remember to bring your appetite and your stretchy pants!"
"This place was recommended and it did not disappoint! The food was excellent, especially the brisket (didn’t try the bbq chicken or turkey), the loaded baked potato and the bbq sauce (delicious!). We did try the “famous” Chicken Fried Steak and it was good, but maybe a bit too thick and “nervy” for me. I would strongly recommend The Wagon Wheel to consider a “famous” Milanesa plate (pounded thin steak) like as those served in Mexico. Service is great and place is old but clean. When in Eagle Pass, be sure to try it. Can’t go wrong!"
"Stopped in with family and friends and had a wonderful time. The food was delicious; best chopped brisket sandwich I've ever had. The sides of cream corn and mac n cheese were so good! My brother ate and enjoyed the giant chicken fried steak. A must stop!"
"Let me tell you what I didn't like...the drive. About 2.5 hours from San Antonio. It seemed like forever. Once we arrived, we felt like royalty. Greeted & welcomed & we felt important. My son and I arrived just after they put up the closed sign....Note, don't wait til the last minute to arrive like we did. They were out of BBQ items, thus the closed sign. Lucky for us, we weren't there for the BBQ today. I asked if they could accommodate one more order after such a long drive. They said yes, as long as we didn't mind a chicken-fried steak or ribeye. This worked out just fine. We ordered the CFS and decided to share. There's no way on God's earth we could each eat one by ourselves. The staff eagerly took our order, asked us what sides we wanted and what drink. The manager or owner even chatted with us for a bit, and made us feel so invited & welcome....even if they were technically closed. I'm sorry, I don't remember her name. Please don't try to all show up like I did, after closing. I'm advising you to get in there at least 2 or 3 hours before closing. There is no guarantee their doors will be open the entire posted time. Now about the food....get ready... The Chicken Fried Steak came out on something like a pizza pan. It was enormous. Well breaded, warm, and covered in flavorful white gravy. Nice & thick gravy. It didn't make the breading soggy. For the end of the day, the sides still tasted so fresh. My son loved the mac & cheese with a dusting of chicharones (fried pork skins). The pinto beans were well seasoned with bits of sausage. The mashed potato was very fluffy. My favorite was the green beans. Seasond just right with salt & pepper & bacon. I wanted to order more, but I was stuffed from the enormous CFS. My son & I finished just over half of it. We took the rest home. Making CFS & eggs for breakfast tomorrow. The staff never even seemed upset that we came in after they put out the closed sign. We felt like family. It's rare to be treated so well and made to feel welcomed & appreciated. It's a tie between whether I was impressed by the food or hospitality the most. We certainly plan to return for the steak and BBQ next time."
"This place was packed and for good reason. The food here is the best. I highly recommend the country fried steak. The portions are huge here so definitely come with an appetite and come hungry. Delicious sides as well. Although parking can be tough, they also own the lot next to them as well. So there’s spots to park. Food came out pretty fast as well. Very friendly and attentive staff. I will definitely be returning next time I am at Eagle Pass."
