Restaurant Cochineal

"Let me start by saying I’ve worked as a waiter for 5+ years and have tremendous amounts of respect for anyone running a restaurant especially these days. If you look at my other reviews I try to never leave 1 star / negative reviews of businesses even if I have a bad experience. That said.... the food here is great but this was a really disappointing experience with customer service. Sit down and of course every waiter is pretentious like we’re in LA or something. It’s the atmosphere, I get it, just not a fan of the person I’m supposed to tip acting like he’s too good to talk to us. Order an appetizer and it’s great. My noticeably pregnant wife and I then sit and wait an hour for our food while every other table gets served. People that walked in 20 minutes after us. Ok. Waiter eventually tells us the kitchen never got our order. Again not the end of the world but for the price of the entrees pretty annoying. We sit there and watch Hipster with a Fedora and a Pearl Snap Shirt No. 2381991 eat while we wait. Finally get out food. Outside of an apology from the waiter no attempt to make things better. I’m then given the bill which already hilariously has a 20% “front and back of house service charge” included. Despite them screwing up. Waiter then does the now standard “shove an iPad in your face and ask for an additional 25% tip while muttering ‘it’s gonna ask you some questions” thing. In the future maybe put a piece of cheesecake on a plate (or does that also take 30 minutes) and give us a free dessert as an apology, comp an app, waive the laughable “give us money even though the service sucked” service fee, etc. Disappointing experience."

"Utterly fantastic experience, from greeting to service to pairings to food. Andrew, our service professional, was clearly one of the best, replacing utensils and clearing plates almost invisibly. That said, Andrew also provided just the right amount of info about the dishes and pairings, as well as area recommendations. Food was largely local and preparation sublime. Generous portions for both meal and pairings, no one leaves hungry."

"Came here for dinner and we enjoyed the Prix Fixe Menu very much, we were super stuffed when left, very generous portion I have to say! They have some very unique ingredients and most of the ingredients are locally sourced, Love it ! It was truly a delightful experience for us. Great dining environment with attentive staff, value for money! I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends."
