Reviews of Chinatown
"Love the food in this area of DC. Good shopping. Proximity to the subway is great."
"My recent visit to Chinatown in Washington DC was an absolute delight, offering a tapestry of experiences that left me thoroughly impressed. As I strolled through the bustling streets, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the vibrant energy and the seamless blend of traditional and modern elements. The diverse array of shops lining the streets was a highlight, each one beckoning with its unique offerings. From quaint boutiques showcasing traditional Chinese crafts to contemporary stores featuring the latest trends, there was something for every taste. I found myself immersed in the rich tapestry of colors, textures, and cultural artifacts, making each shop a miniature adventure. One of the standout aspects was the culinary diversity that Chinatown had to offer. The variety of authentic Chinese cuisine was a food lover’s paradise. From small, family-run eateries to larger, more upscale restaurants, the choices seemed endless. Dim sum, Peking duck, noodles, and a plethora of other delectable dishes were on display, and each place I tried offered a culinary journey through the flavors of China. Navigating the culinary landscape felt like a treasure hunt with so many hidden gems awaiting discovery. Whether I opted for a cozy hole-in-the-wall joint or a more expansive dining establishment, the quality and authenticity of the food never failed to impress. The shops themselves were a testament to the vibrant cultural heritage of the area. Traditional Chinese crafts, clothing, and artwork were on display, providing a wonderful opportunity to immerse myself in the artistic and historical aspects of the culture. The shopkeepers were not only knowledgeable but also friendly, adding a personal touch to the overall experience. As the day unfolded, I couldn’t help but appreciate the seamless fusion of tradition and modernity within Chinatown. The traditional architecture, adorned with colorful lanterns and ornate details, stood in harmonious contrast to the modern storefronts and trendy boutiques. In essence, my visit to Chinatown in Washington DC was an enriching journey. The lively atmosphere, diverse shopping options, and an abundance of culinary choices made it a destination worth exploring. The fusion of tradition and modernity created a unique charm that left me with lasting memories and a strong recommendation for anyone seeking an authentic and culturally immersive experience."
"I love the Chinatown area but in the past few years it has become grimy and dangerous. You can barely get off the escalators at the Gallery Place Metro without tripping over a homeless person and all sorts of nefarious types of people are in the area which simply reeks of marijuana. People drive scooters on sidewalks which makes things dangerous for pedestrians. I'm sure this situation has made it difficult for restaurant owners and has probably affected attendance at the local sports/concert arena. It's really a shame because it's a place that has so much to offer but now it seems to be overrun by unsavory characters"
"There are a couple of unique stores here but overall it's nothing like most chinatown's it's basically a glorified place to get Chinese food."
"The only thing lacking was a bit more spots for shopping. Everything was really just about food. It needs to drive more people to there with other forma of entertainment as well. Restaurants were great and loved the labels in Chinese throughout all the streets."
