The Lone Sailor 1400 Riverplace Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207

"The Lone Sailor is a bronze statue sculpted by Stanley Bleifeld , who is also famous for sculpting the national memorial in Washington. The statue is located in downtown Jacksonville near the river walk on the south bank. The Lone Sailor was made as a memorial honoring the relationship between the Navy and Jacksonville. It’s said that in the mid 1980’s about 150 local businesses and community leaders raised some $400,000 to pay for it. A quarter of the funds went to the Navy National Memorial. Other cities have a version of this statue but the “leaning”pose used in Jacksonville was reserved especially by the sculptor. The river walk is a scenic place to enjoy the river and views of downtown. The area is wheelchair accessible and there was once were public restrooms nearby (currently closed), also there is no fishing, netting, or shrimping allowed on the river walk. Enjoy!"
