Reviews of Sunshine State Arch
"Great place"
"St. Louis has the Gateway Arch and Miami has...the Sunshine State Arch! Located at the intersection of N.W. 13th Avenue and N.W. 167th Street, our arch was completed in 1964 before its inspiration was even finished. This industrial park was designed by William "Bill" C. Webb. Webb called the arch " a fresh approach to industrial planning . . . a bold new concept . . . Florida's showcase of industry . . ." Designed by Walter C Harry Associates, the arch is the tallest historic parabolic structure in the state of Florida. The arch took 3 months to build by the Webb Construction Company at a cost of $100,000 and it was lifted into place by giant cranes over a three day period. The arch can withstand 200 mile an hour winds. The Arch is an example of Miami Modern or MiMo architecture, a type of mid century modernism. This architectural style developed after WWII from the 1940's to the 1960's and its hallmark is modern simplicity of form influenced by South Florida. There is an entire MiMo neighborhood in Miami if you want to explore more of this type of architecture. After incorporating in 2003, the city of Miami Gardens incorporated the arch into its seal. On August 17, 2011 the Miami-Dade County Historic Preservation Board designated the "Arch of Industry" at the Sunshine State International Park as a Local Historic Structure. The arch was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. The park is currently managed by Bill Webb III, the park designers grandson."
"When I first saw the Arch I didn't know it was historical. It was just beautiful to my eyes and had to take a photo of it while by Floor & Decor."
