Reviews of Charles Q. Clapp House
"Built in 1832, the Charles Q Clapp house is a high-style example of Greek Revival architecture. Charles Quincy Clapp was a real estate developer, railroad builder and the eldest son of Maine's first millionaire, Asa G Clapp. Charles Q Clapp designed the house himself along with many other buildings in the city. He lived there only 4 years or so before selling it and moving back into the McLellan house next door which he had owned since 1820. The house was owned by the Portland Society of Art as well as the Maine College of Art before being purchased by the Portland Museum of Art. The house is currently not open to the public."
"In the downtown Portland area you will find the Charles Q. Class house. It is next door to the Portland Art Museum. The yellow home has white columns and was believed to have been build in 1872. I found the building to be interesting architecturally and believe it is an example of Greek Revival."
