"We were so excited to visit(walk in) but sadly felt like an annoyance rather than welcomed. The place is all locked up with no signage of what to do. I wonder how many people have come to visit during "open" hours, but couldn't get in and just left. Very poorly set up and staffed. So let me tell you what to do when you arrive... Go to the office building ring the bell... Then pay $15 each and they will let you in the museum. They do not accept anything but exact cash(no change or credit card )We weren't offered a tour or anything. Asked for a calendar of events and never got it. I think the place is mostly set up for school visits(pre-planned). We are all trying to remember and give voice to these great heroes who broke through huge barriers and oppression. I shouldn't be more excited about this topic and sharing it then the staff working here! Represent these heros with the respect they deserve!"
"Enjoyed this tour so much. There is so much black history that has not been told. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the contents visited. I'm so glad I found this place and will recommend people to go visit."
"I went to the Juneteenth Celebration at the park they had free tours of Fort Myers Black History Museum, such a great source of information about slavery and about Fort Black History. This stuff I never learned in school so, important pieces of history are left out. I want to know the whole story.... So many brave people fought for freedom that we never hear about. I hope my 8 year olds generation learns the whole history of the USA and local history and not just the certain pretty stories that sound good... Thank I learned a lot. I want to come back when it is not so busy so I can time to read everything."
"Place ran out of bathroom tissue and managing person was late to open causing problems for our schedule. Hot and stuffy. Inadequate AC for such a small place. Hope to find something else for next function."
"Thoughly enjoyed our visit. Wish we could have stayed longer. Suggest you arrange your time for a guided tour to fully appreciate the significance of the displays. A suggested improvement by the city/state - increase the visibility of the signage for the Black History Society on Martin Luther King Blvd."
