Coast Guard Heritage Museum
About the Business
The Coast Guard Heritage Museum, located at 3353 Main Street in Barnstable, Massachusetts, is a museum dedicated to telling the story of the U.S. Coast Guard from a Cape Cod perspective. As one of only two free-standing museums in the country focused on Coast Guard history, we are proud to occupy the historic 1856 U.S. Customs House in Barnstable.
Our mission is to celebrate the deep and rich legacy of the Coast Guard on Cape Cod, showcasing its important role in protecting shores, rescuing distressed seamen, enforcing laws, and promoting safety at sea. With over 2700 square feet of exhibit space filled with historic artifacts, models, and stories, visitors can explore the fascinating history of the Coast Guard.
Visitors can enjoy our new feature display for the 2024 season, "Coast Guard Trench Art and Entertainment." The museum is open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays during the month of May through Memorial Day Weekend. After Veteran's Day, we close for the season until May.
Admission to the museum is $5.00 for adults, with children under 10, Active Duty Coast Guard personnel, and Museum Members admitted for free. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we rely on admission fees, memberships, and donations to operate. Donations to our organization may be tax deductible, so be sure to consult with your tax professionals.
Come visit the Coast Guard Heritage Museum to learn about the history and important missions of the U.S. Coast Guard, and explore the fascinating exhibits in our historic location.

"The worker that gave us a tour was so friendly, inviting and informative. He was great with my kids and made something that could be "boring" for them, a really fun amd educational experience. Definitely worth a visit!"
"Learn about the Coast Guard here !!! "It's a wonderful Museum" WELL worth the visit."
"We had an awesome time exploring the proud heritage of the Cape. Volunteers were super friendly and knowledgeable. We had the privilege of speaking with a 30 year veteran of the USCG who shared a lot of great historic information. If you are in the area or not far, its worth stopping by."
"What a hidden gem. The museum is small, but it is full of interesting information about the history of the Coast Guard. Most of the museum personnel are former "Coasties" so they have a real passion and it was fun to hear them describe the exhibits or to answer questions. Without doubt one of the best bargains on the Cape."
"Great museum in a truly beautiful historic town and building. The guides are very knowledgeable and spend as much time as you need to get the absolutely best experience. Don't forget to visit the Barnstable Blacksmith shop in the buildings historic carriage house."
