"Absolutely charming and peaceful and a wild fox joined me and just hung out for a bit. Very cool."

"A fun stop within Point Lookout State Park. The main state park was $5 for a day pass for out of state visitors, but it's worth it! The signage isn't the most clear for how to find this fort, but follow Google maps and use one of the parking areas nearby. There are some good informational signs, and you can walk inside the remains of the fort. The earthen walls are original, but the buildings inside are recreations. Definitely worth a visit!"

"Awesome, historical site to check out. They did well keeping it authentic looking and you can almost feel the atmosphere there. It's insane how they kept 50,000 prisoners there under such horrible conditions."

"Fort was clean and nice. Beautiful views of Potomac River. Well cared for. Walked from the Fort to the prison area....big mistake. SWARMS of mosquitoes. If you chose to do the prison area, please bring a very DEET-heavy bug spray."

"I love historic sites. This was an unexpected trip and a fun adventure! It is an earthen fort so it was really interesting to see it as the people who were there so long ago. My kids enjoyed it and considering it is inside the park, there was plenty to do and see there before and afterwards. It didn't take a long time but BEWARE - we had ticks crawling up our legs when we were back by the prison. The buildings inside the fort were fine. There is a bathroom not far from it also which is great news for those of us with kids! Once we were finished we went to the beach!"
