Meade's Pyramid

"Easy 5 stars for this pile of rocks. For the able bodied tourist, hike up to it and get a peaceful view of the railroad and pyramid. The sign says some confederate remembrance organization asked for a memorial to be built here where Union general Meade broke through the lines, and instead the railroad put this pyramid here lol"

"It was well worth taking the time to check out. The trails and walk was also very peaceful and shaded with some history all the way through the walk."

"You can't get close and it's tucked away in a hard to see location. Lots of shaded areas to hang out near the parking lot."

"When I was a pre-teen and early teenager growing up in the area, circa 1970, we would often hike along the tracks from the old FMC plant spur that ran next to my subdivision. It was several miles each way but we always climbed up to the top of the pyramid and just kind of hung out there watching the trains go by. Good times. Didn't know it had a name until decades later as neither the area nor the structure had any signage and there was no walkway from the park road. Back then, there was no ivy and no trees in the area; the pyramid was all alone and pristine in a sea of high grass. From the more recent photos, it is clear no one is maintaining the site."

"Lot of history here. Just wish they pulled the greens off the pyramid. But otherwise, was clean, peaceful and an enjoyment to go see. Once the ivy comes down, itll be a 5 star for sure!"
