"Lovely outdoor area for a quick break and to learn a little about Alexandria's African American history."
"The best looking park I ever seen."
"The Alexandria African American Heritage Park. It started out as a Black Bapist Cemetery which was forgotten, abandoned, and turned into a landfill. It was rediscovered in late 20th Century and it became a memorial site. From what I understand they are still researching who was buried here and many of those who buried here are unknwon."
"I was riding through Alexandria looking for something interesting to do when I saw a sign for the Alexandria African American Heritage Park. I have never heard of it, so I stopped. So glad I did! It was a quaint, quiet little Park with beautiful sculptures, grassland, Marsh, and a walking path that crosses a bridge over the marsh. It was very peaceful so I spent my afternoon there walking the lands, reading the remaining headstones from what appears to have been an African American cemetery, and admiring the sculptures."
"This one museum had a very significant impact on my view of history. We take so many things for granted, but in this place you get to see how very hard it was for your people to do just basic simple things, like read for free in a public library. The exhibit was beautiful and honest without leaving you in despair. You leave with a renewed desire to make a strong impact with the things we all take for granted. Watch the video, it tells the story beautifully."
