Reviews of Winchester Historical Society
"A beautiful place to have a gathering. Can easily accommodate 40-50. Lots of parking. Very reasonable cost"
"I really loved the architecture! Anybody know the architect?"
"Seeing Sanborn House alone worth a visit to any program event!"
"Just came back from an event at the Winchester historical society where world renowned author Mike Tougias spoke on his book "Above and beyond" about the U-2 pilots of the Cuban missed crisis...and how close we came to a war that could have devastated our planet. A great event at a fabulous place. Check out the author and the Sanborn house you won't be disappointed!"
"The house is hard to miss, but the sign is hard to read and the entrance is a little confusing -- pull into the school parking lot to the west and you'll see a small parking lot between an abandoned building and the little garden. There's not a lot to look at in terms of displays or archives (a few paintings and maps, some books about Winchester and neighboring towns, as well as some related books from or about New England), but the house is beautiful and they've done some beautiful restoration work on both the inside and outside. You can pop in for a visit during open hours, but if the staff are doing work inside the house they may not hear you ring the main door, so go to the side door to the left and try that one. The staff on the day I visited were very friendly and nice and gave me a casual tour of the house -- if you want a true historical tour, you'd need to make an appointment. It would be a beautiful place to hold events -- weddings, small concerts, lectures, and meetings. There is a small parking lot. Note: The historical archives are not located here but at the Winchester Archival Center."
