"A historical location you'll visit as part of your Freedom Trail walk. Standing at the location where the Boston Massacre occurred is a profound experience. It's typically a bit busy, as it's located near main roads and walkways, with pedestrians coming and going, but it's quite easy to approach. There's no cost to see it, and the location doesn't require waiting in line or navigating barriers. The site of the Boston Massacre is marked by a large circle inset with the date, March 5, 1770, in front of the Old State House (original place of colonial governance). There's something tragic yet poetic about the juxtaposition of historical events when you stand there in person. It feels altogether *real*. There are occasional music performances in front of the Old State House as well, if you want to pause a moment and soak it in."
"After reading about the history of this horrible incident, the visit to this site was quite moving. It is a well-preserved site, and there are city ambassadors close by to tell you about its significance."
"It seems like a site as significant as the Boston Massacre should have some kind of monument and not just this marker on the ground. We walked right past it and had to go back. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't even some informational plaques."
"This was probably my most favorite historical site in the entire city. I walked over from across the street and happened onto a tour group. The guide was friendly and entertaining, and also very knowledgeable and informative on the history of the site. I enjoyed it so much that I actually regret not getting a ticket inside to see the rest of the museum building inside. Definitely going to come back and get a ticket to look inside."
"The juxtaposition of this building in the city is beautiful! The site of the Boston massacre where a total of 5 people died back in 1770 is also a museum! The museum does have an entrance fee. COVID Safety rating: 9/10, pretty safe. Some parts of the inside is a bit tight and social distancing can be limited if there’s 10 or more people in there. They do have hand sanitizer and a limit of people that can enter. Also I believe their gift shop was closed so people don’t linger. We went during the early afternoon on a Friday and it wasn’t too busy."
