"A small Museum that has a lot to offer for the whole family. You can learn about this abolitionist family homestead, that was an official stop on the underground"
"It is an old house with photos hanging as pictures on the walls. The place is ran down, looks like abandoned. They still charge a $6 fee."
"Great place to visit for all ages. I love the atmosphere of small museums. Kids will be entertained by toys exhibition. Adult will discover Newton town’s history"
"Excellent homeschool field trip after learning about Slavery and the Civil War. It's not large, but the perfect size for an afternoon. Beautifully put-together with a good mix of reading and hands-on exhibits, plus a toy room with multiple examples of old-fashioned things to play with! Highly recommend."
"As a Jackson, I remember celebrating a family reunion at the homestead when I was about 16 years old. The mayor of Newton came to cut the cake, and the family photo still hangs in my dad's family room. I'm planning to visit the museum again soon. I remember it being really fantastic, and I loved seeing the well that was involved in the underground railroad. I highly recommend a visit to this very interesting place."
