"My whole life I've had problems because of how much I sleep (I've lost a marriage, jobs, had issues in the air force) and was told I was lazy. Someone suggested I see Dr. Achaen at IU Health and they did a 24 hour sleep study and found I have idiopathic hypersomnia... He started me on a stimulant and CHANGED MY LIFE. Even now, I have been on the same dose for years and I feel like a normal functioning person. When I don't take it, I wake up every hour on the hour at night and fall back asleep before I even can lay back down sometimes, and can fall asleep and in 5 minutes have a full dream... But when I do, I am, for the first time in my life, finding myself wanting to wake up and start the day and take care of my to-do list, and then at night I sleep so wonderfully that I wake up feeling so refreshed. Dr. Achaen listened to me and sympathized with me. He listens and is willing to run the right tests to make sure you have the correct diagnosis. I cried when he told me that i have a medical condition and I am not lazy and that it wasn't MY fault like I have been led to believe my whole life. I thank GOD every day for people like him and am so thankful for everyone that has helped give me hope for a beautiful life ahead. They are also really good at making sure people aren't abusive to the system and trying to manipulate the medical field for recreational purposes... Which reassures me that I am indeed getting the best medical care I could. So thank you, Dr. Achaen for being a great doctor who listens and truly helps people."
