"We invested with American Equity Insurance Company through Bill Demaree 4 years ago. Since then we are disappointed with the methods that this company has performed. Year 1 with this company we had our money split between to different types of investments. With 80% of our money in a Indexed Annuity (higher return on investment and 20% in a fixed percent return (1.1%/yr) Year #1 we received a good return on our investment. Year #2 we got a unpleasant surprise. The method the company used to compute return on investment for the Indexed Annuity (this is a month to month index based on S&P 500) they capped the gains at 1.4% each month but if there was a loss there was no cap. So despite the S&P 500 gaining over 300 points in year #2 we were paid nothing (0). We were paid just under $300 on the fixed portion of our investment. So for year # 2 this company used our money (approximately $185,000.00) and paid us under $300. With the accounting method that they used to compute our return on investment (which was never explained to us at the time we initially invested) this company would not be a place I would NOT recommend to investment money for retirement. We are gradually withdrawing our funds from this company."

"Since February of 2013 I have been very pleased with the Annuity services provided by Demaree Retirement Services on the American Equity Annuities held by my wife and I. Whenever we have had questions about our annuities Bill Demaree and Lynn have either answered the questions or gotten the answers for us in a timely manner. Including during this COVID19 issue. We have 2 annuities and this one fits our retirement needs very well. I attribute this to Bills initial design based on our requests. He was also very through and patient we us during the annuity evaluation process initially."

"This guy is just another insurance salesman with the ability to say what ever he wants about returns on the radio. A good indication that he is not a fiduciary is that he even mentions returns on a radio ad. These guys make me sick. If you're not a fiduciary and you're mainly making a living off commissions and you're just a used car salesman in my opinion. Understand that his 6% claim isn't even on your principal (real money) its on an income bucket that you only get access to if you start taking income in payments. Those payments can have a small multiple factor which REDUCES your monthly income. Every time you hear an add that mentions returns and safe investments they are simply selling you and annuity and they are not describing it properly. True investment professionals don't present investments this way. The only thing that matters is the monthly income that they project for you A X B = C . He's talking about B when C is all that matters. You have to know A before you can even make an educated opinion. He also screens his prospects to make sure no one that has a clue gets in and he can sell to the clueless sheep in the flock. If you want good investment go to an investment professional who doesn't make any kind of kick back on funds, doesn't sell in house funds, and doesn't sell one fund family. I know its a little hard to find but they are out there."
