WWII Artillery Fire Observation Tower #6
About the Business
The WWII Artillery Fire Observation Tower #6 is a historic site located at 99 Road 300 in Lewes, Delaware, United States. This tower is one of eleven concrete towers built during World War II, originally part of Fort Miles which was constructed with $22 million for defense along the east coast. Despite being heavily armed with various types of artillery, Fort Miles never had to fire a shot in defense. The towers were strategically built above ground with hidden bunkers within the sand, equipped with powerful weaponry to guard against potential attacks from German forces. Today, the towers serve as a reminder of the important role they played in protecting the east coast during the war. Visitors can explore the Pilot Radar Tower, which has been restored and updated with modern equipment for monitoring river traffic. However, the towers are threatened by erosion and storms, making preservation efforts crucial to maintain these historic structures for future generations to appreciate.

"Scenic. Definitely a trec to walk to but peacful and a calming sunset. Good amount of seashells also."
"Great beach and place to relax"
"I took the trail far thought to see the 2 towers in a distance. If my girls weren't so tired from the hike along Gordons Pond, I would have walked up to the towers. The looked massive even in a distance. I saw 2 of the on the watch area on the Gordon's Pond trail but not share which of the 3 towers I saw."
"So I started from Henlopen something on the Rehoboth beach coastline and walked down to the North Shore which was a very pretty 2.4 mile walk and it was very peaceful. There we're opportunities to take pics on less crowded areas of the beach near the observational towers and prior to getting to them. The seashell selection seemed pretty good too. I found some beauties. I highly recommend walk.in.this direction for quiet and solitude."
"Absolutely beautiful! Awesome, more quiet beach than the rest on the strip with this surreal historic backdrop"
