Reviews of Jeffrey J. Couture, MD - IU Health Physicians Internal Medicine & Pediatrics
"I switched to Dr couture because i needed an internal medicine doctor for some serious health issues and he seemed like he cared. He does not! He is the most incompetent doctor that I've ever had. He said that he's not familiar with a medication that I've been prescribed since 2006, so he's not comfortable prescribing it. Why do they even make it? It's the only medication that has ever worked for me. An internal medicine doctor should familiarize themselves with medication or just retire. On to medication number 2, which I've also taken for years. I had him redo my prescription after it expired. It was 20mg daily. He sent me 5 pills at 5mg. Then i talked to them again and i stated 20mg was the dose and what am i supposed to do with 5 pills. They resent it at 5mg daily. Then i call back and ask to come pick up the written prescription myself, so i know it's right. All of this has taken a week and a half. Then i get a rude call back finally saying that 10 mg is the recommended dose and that's all he'll prescribe me. Kinda makes me wonder why they even make 20mg, if it's too much. I don't understand why he didn't he say that the first time. Neither of these are pain killers, by the way. He's more interested in pushing prozac than treating anything that I'm there for. This is the most horribly ran dr office I've ever been to. Between their lack of communication and his lack of competence and compassion, they seem more dangerous than helpful. Do yourself a favor and don't bother. What a nightmare!"
"I was a patient for 15 years..my entire family saw Dr. Couture. I left a few years ago when our last visit went sour. I had mentioned to him I was having severe pain in my back due to a slipped disc from an auto accident. I asked him for pain medicine. He yelled at me and stated I don't hv a slipped disc and I probably have fibromyalgia & he's not going to lose his license for prescribing me pain medicine. I'm a nurse and I know that fibromyalgia is diagnosed by symptoms after blood work has come back negative for other possible issues. I was his patient for so long and was hesitant for asking for pain meds, if he had been patient and had offered other avenues that would have been great. A doctor is supposed to have composure and not a biased, I told him I felt like an alien every time I came to him because I felt he looked down on me. Anytime I had a major issue I wld go to the ER because I know I wouldn't get the proper care in the office. At that visit I told him I was stressed and thought about quitting my job. He told me I needed to see psych. I was a director of a memory care unit with a stressful job and I feel belittled by him saying that the way he did. I feel a lot on my health issues could have been addressed on a timely manner if I had another doctor. He is literally good for colds and vaccinations nothing more. When I told him I thought I had ADHD he told me only one adult in his panel had that diagnosis. I now have been diagnosed with that and on medicine and doing well. It took me a lot to write this post because I don't want to badmouth anyone. But the doctor I see now I feel a partnership with that doesn't look down on me and takes what I say in consideration. If you're looking for a doctor that can treat colds and minor issues he is capable, but if you want a doctor with a nice bedside manner that listens to you perhaps you should go elsewhere. Best of health and regards to you."
"Dr. Couture has been our family doctor for 15 years now. He is fantastic; truly cares and goes the extra mile to make sure his patients are well taken care of. He has called me at 8PM to provide test results, has contacted other entities of IU Health to reach out to us to offer assistance and always spends time with us on our visits, listening to what we have to say. He does physicals the way a doctor is supposed to- hands on, testing reflexes and all kinds of other things with a thorough physical exam. He has been spot on in diagnoses, even for obscure things like Piriformis Syndrome, etc. Highly recommend him."
"Dr. Couture has been our doctor for almost 20 years now. He's been there from the beginning for each of our 4 kids ages 11-18. Could not hope for a better doctor. Great personality, nice staff, he keeps current on the latest research, and he takes the time to think through each situation to come up with the best care possible. Also looks at the big picture in terms of life situation, diet, exercise, etc. when it makes sense to do that. Not just there to hand out pills so he can get to the next patient. He really tries to think of all the possibilities, and we've had a few curve balls over the years. He's always figured out what we needed and been on top of things as they have changed over time. We've recommended him to several friends over the years. Great doctor."
"What I like most about Dr. Couture is that he always looks for the non-pharmaceutical, non-procedure solution first: diet, exercise, stress management through breathing, sufficient sleep, etc. He's a technically very capable physician (board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics), but he's first a wellness coach. We've been patients for 15 years and are very satisfied."
