"I recently needed service on my Goodman HVAC system that was 2 years and a week old. I had purchased this system from GIST so of course I thought I'd get them to come see why it wasn't cooling and a couple days later they show up to check it out and let me know that an expansion valve had gone bad and that it would cost $1300 to get my unit going again. I told them that I would have to get a second opinion before I spent that kind of money. I first got in contact with a friend in GA who has a booming residential and commercial HVAC business and asked his opinion of what a repair like that should cost and he said $400 at most. So I then went to the Goodman website and started looking for other nearby Goodman dealers and I talked to the 3 nearest dealers and told them what was wrong with my unit and the approximate price they thought it would cost to make the repair. They all thought that they could make the repair for $400 or less unless they needed to add some refrigerant and then it could be a bit more. The last dealer I called could actually come the quickest and I told them to come and make the repair. I was delighted to get my unit going again for only $300. Yes, $1,000 less than GIST had quoted to repair my unit that they had originally installed. Also, consider that my Goodman unit is covered under a 10 year parts warranty. So I paid GIST for their 30 minute service call which cost $86 to tell me what was wrong with my unit and I don't plan on ever calling them again."
