"This was an interesting place to stumble upon. Unless you’re a minor explorer, you would never know it’s there. Built in 1901 and used until 1917 according to Wikipedia “Fort Mansfield was one of numerous coastal artillery installations constructed in the Harbor Defenses of Long Island Sound as part of the coastal defense network for New York City.” In 1907 they found out the Ford had a fatal flaw and it wasn’t used much after that. Anyway, what you can see now is a fenced off ruin covered in graffiti. It would be interesting to know how the structures were used."

"Napatree point where the old forts are situated. About. 2.5 mile hike. Go past the last bird house on your right. Proceed up the slightly Rocky mound onto an open area where you will see a mound of seashells. Just to your right a slight but steep little incline and you will see the fencing on the forts which are graffiti filled. The views up there are pretty cool."

"The walk along the beautiful beach was incredible and I will absolutely do it again. However the actual place was less of the castle ruins I thought and more a destination for an amateur urban explorer/teenagers up to no good. For that I give Fort Mansfield two stars."

"This place was covered in graffiti and fenced off. It wasn't 20 years ago when I visited last. The area should be kept up better."
