"I have wanted to post a review for quite some time, after a very odd experience. My fiancé and I originally came together for couples therapy. We both felt listened to and safe to speak up, but when I would ask for tools, or things we could do to work on outside of therapy we weren’t given those resources. In couples therapy it was suggested that I see a therapist individually to work on past trauma and was given a recommendation of the specific therapist. Upon my first initial session, I mentioned a prescription I have been taking for depression, and after sharing that I simply talked to the provider initially which medication I’d like to trial due to my symptoms and research, the therapist told me I had “manipulated” the provider. I know that having a conversation with a provider/professional about what could work is not manipulation, however it was really shocking to be told you’re manipulating someone based off of no indication that it occurred. I felt in the session I was being groomed due to comments of me being “intelligent” while not knowing me yet. I understand that therapists have different styles and techniques but the over use of cursing while providing therapy seems contradicting since that could be offensive depending on a person’s background and personal beliefs. At the end of the session I was told that the therapist “would probably get more out of the sessions than I would”. I understand what she was intending to indicate, however when seeking help and paying a therapist, the attention should be on the client and encouraging the client while ensuring the therapist’s skills will be what is important to growth and change. I felt this therapist was regurgitating/identifying with pseudo psychology with how she was cursing and the comment at the end of the session. I found it alarming to be accused of manipulation of a provider considering many factors that a provider has their own guidelines and could have declined my request and I would have accepted that conclusion. There was no emotional or mental coercion and to be accused of something that had no basis worries me for clients in the future. I now see a clinical psychologist that referred to this experience as “bizarre”. My time in couples therapy I feel was comfortable, however the one initial therapy session I had individually was not what I would expect from a professional especially in the mental health field. I feel that if a client is not self aware and desperate to receive help, they could end up on a path where the therapist dominates over their character and has no regard for how to actually use trained skills to guide and be apart of the healing process."
"My first appointment was last week and it felt so comfortable that it seemed like we had been working together for years! I am very excited to continue working with Leslie in the coming weeks and months! Thank you for what you do!"
"It is very clear that the therapists at Cracked Open truly care for their clients and everyone I have encountered is exceptionally kind and knowledgeable. I am so thankful I found them and cannot say enough great things about Tony, especially. I highly recommend Cracked Open Therapy if you’re looking for a safe space and a therapist you can trust."
