About the Business
Hopewell Mill Ruins in Glastonbury, Connecticut, is a historic site that offers a glimpse into the town's industrial past. The ruins are all that remain of the once-thriving mill, which was originally built in 1836. The mill produced woolen goods and later uniforms for the Union Army during the Civil War. The property was later used to produce aircraft parts before eventually being purchased by the town and designated as Matson Hill Open Space.
Today, visitors can explore the ruins, which include the original walls and smokestack of the mill. The Glastonbury Historical Society has worked to preserve the site, ensuring that the walls are saved from demolition. Concrete foundations and remnants of the mill's machinery can still be seen within the walls.
Nearby, the Slab Gut Brook Dam and other historic structures provide further insight into the area's industrial history. The site is a reminder of Glastonbury's past as a hub of industry and innovation. Visitors can take a step back in time and imagine what life was like at the Hopewell Mill in its heyday.

"Found these old ruins on my way to find the old missile site in South Glastonbury and of course I had to pull over and take some pictures of these beautiful ruins. I have not ventured off I just got on my car to take pictures but I will soon be going on an adventure to walk around this area. But in the meantime here are some photos I snapped."
