"Get-A-Grip JUDO is a superb environment for learning Kodokan Traditional and Competitive Judo, which is a modern Japanese combat style focused on grappling and throwing. You will learn true martial arts discipline. Many people do not realize this but Brazilian Jujitsu is derived from Judo and shares many core principles. Here at the dojo, students of Judo (judokas) engage in vigorous physical excercises designed to develop your cardiovascular functioning and self-defensive maneuvers. We practice forms (kata), repetitive fitting practice (uchikomis), and of course, free-style practice (randori), where we put our knowledge to the test with one-on-one sparring. The techniques (waza) are diverse, and we train in both standing (tachi-waza) and ground techniques (ne-waza). While I am still a pure beginner, I know that I have learned something about self-defense in these past few months as a mudansha, and I hope to continue to learn more overtime. Judo may be known as the "gentle way" but it can help you survive, even in the most deadly of situations."
