Reviews of Adler University
"A top dollar, incredibly expensive school with very little to offer its students in the way of support, diversity, or experience. In the time I interacted with the school the turnover of staff and faculty was immense, especially for people of color and working parents. Concerns are voiced often and fall on deaf ears. The HR department had one employee for a disturbingly long time, leaving a huge lack of safety net for staff. While there are some great professors, the administrators are traditional to a fault and primarily seem to worry about how the school seems to the public vs. how the lived experiences of staff and students are unfolding. Diversity and social justice are just buzzwords for Adler."
"Extremely unprofessional. Extremely expensive. I have my masters now, but the experience was not what I had hoped. Bureaucracy is very apparent. All they care about is your money"
"Some of the professors are great, yet some have little to no experience in the topic they are teaching in. They also charge you thousands of dollars for your unpaid internships."
"Their social justice practicum is a joke and is making it extremely difficult for me to finish my CMHC program. The whole experience is a crazy expensive and they didn't even bother making the courses available enough so all the students that need the courses can take them. I keep having pointless discussions about when these "courses" will be available and no one was a solid idea. Everytime is different and now I might not be able to start my internship when I planned to. The experience also has to be unpaid, so if you are qorking full time and juggling other things like family life qhile going here, be prepapres to have to sacrifice some free time to do some unpaid internship work. Unfortunately I'm took far in to transfer now but Do yourself a favor and avoid this school."
"If you are not specifically going into I/O psychology, there isn't much here for you. Technically there are other focuses, but almost all of the general classes just talk about how to encourage diversity in a workplace. I am 10 months into the program, and I have not learned about a single psychological disorder, which is unfortunate considering that I want to go into psychopathology/research. I figured this wouldn't be such an uncommon subject for an MA in psychology program. Most assignments are along the lines of "write a 3-4 page paper on why having diversity in the workplace is a good thing". I've had some great professors, but I've barely learned anything after nearly a year in the program. I don't want to leave the school because I've already spent so much time and money, and I do think that the focus on social justice is really awesome, but every class just seems to be a copy-and-paste version of the last, with just a re-wording on why having diversity and inclusion in the workplace is important. A year after writing this review, I have even more negative things to say. I have 1.5 credits left and a 3.9 GPA, but the SJP program and department is the most unprofessional and unorganized department I have ever encountered in academia. My graduation was pushed almost 8 months since they made multiple mistakes on their end and forgot to register me for the correct class (more than once). I'm spending extra time and money for their mistakes."
