"Unfortunately we've had to take each of our fur baby kitties to Emergency Pet Care, most recently late last night when our male 8 mo. old baby fell from the upstairs balcony. Everyone who helped was friendly, caring, and comforting. I also love that they send all the records of the visit to our regular clinic, Crossroads in Moody. I was able to ask our clinic some followup questions this morning and they had already received the records. Thank you for being so sweet with our babies!"
"Lost a dear member of our family due to this place's incompetence. Our chihuahua had been attacked by a another dog, and was in critical condition, losing a lot of blood. We were told we would have to wait in our car until they could see us. As we sat there for nearly three hours, watching our otherwise healthy dog of 11 years bleeding out on a bed of towels in a box from a serious but treatable laceration, we watched several other dogs walk or trot in to be seen with no apparent injury or illness. Once we finally got inside, we were told our dog would have to stay overnight, and that we would get a call in the morning to pick him up. When we called the next morning to check on him, we were informed he was in surgery - they had done nothing all night. We finally went to pick him up that afternoon and paid them over $1,000 for their "services." We were told that he needed to rest for a day, and then we should be able to get him out and take him for a walk the next day. The dog died less than 8 hours later in our arms. The loss was absolutely unnecessary and devastating. There are apparently SEVERAL other emergency animal clinics in the Birmingham area. I wish that we had taken a few extra minutes to drive to any of them. In the ridiculous time we spent waiting in our car while our dog was dying and they were treating dogs with tummy aches or holiday anxiety, we could have driven to any of the emergency vets in Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Atlanta or Nashville. We will never forgive ourselves for that mistake - don't make the same one and take your pet to this sham of an establishment. If you care about your pet, you'll go anywhere else. I hate that I even had to give them 1 star."
"I wish that I could give negative stars. I would take my chances of my beloved dog dying at home and waiting for my regular vet to open before ever stepping foot back in this place. First, Dr. K told me that she would be taking my dog back immediately for surgery. That did not happen. Dr. Maynes did the surgery over 6 hours later. When I went to pick my baby up on Monday at 6:00 am, he was so swollen...his face, ears, abdomen and all extremities. His lips felt like they were going to explode there was so much fluid. Me not knowing much about sepsis in a dog did not realize that he was SEPTIC. Thankfully I took him straight to his vet where they said they were "confused" as to how he ended up this way. It took a week to get him better, and my regular vet honestly did not think he was going to pull through. The discharge papers that were given to me by this horrible emergency clinic said that if he were not eating or drinking that it was a sign of a serious problem and to take you pet to your regular vet immediately. The vet that did the surgery called me and said that he should eat within 12 to 24 hours. He was there over 30 hours after surgery and every note that the techs made on my sweet dog said not interested in food or water YET THEY DID NOTHING TO HELP HIM. They left him lying there to die. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ANY ANIMAL THAT YOU CARE ABOUT TO THESE PEOPLE. Also, they will not call you back to discuss any of your concerns. I have been told several times that they would call back and they have not."
"Absolutely the worst ER vet experience! My daughters dog ingested a small toy and it became lodged & required ER surgery on the night of 11/4/23. The cost was $4,288 - BUT THE REAL PROBLEM: They told my daughter to pick him up at 6:30 am on 11/6/23 and to take him and monitor him, while the discharge tech was trying to be sweet, it was very clear that the dog was in SERIOUS DISTRESS -yet though they said NOTHING. They sent him away w/a catheter and his IV still in place. His entire body was so visibly swollen, his eyes could hardly be seen, even his ears were were swollen - yet there was NO CONCERN at all! There was NO vet present to go over anything regarding this beloved dog. She took him directly to the regular vet clinic and it was noted immediately that they felt he was septic and it was not looking to be a promising outcome for survival & felt a second surgery was very possible IF they can get enough antibiotics running for several hours to get some control over his sick body. The blood work, that was evaluated within 30 minutes of arrival, indicated a high level of infection - THAT EMERGENCY PET CARE DID NOT CATCH OR ADDRESS! Apparently after his surgery they left him in a kennel with no one monitoring my daughters heart & soul. All they are concerned about is "pay us now" type service! And yes, the regular vet is at a loss for words given this dogs condition when they released him. I suppose I should be thankful we were able to remove him from the EMERGENCY PET CAREs facility before they "finished him off" in such a cruel and non-caring way. We can only pray he is strong enough to fight! He is so loved!"
