Reviews of Porter-Starke Services Recovery Center
"I’ve been going here for over 5 years now and I don’t mind going every day because the staff is so wonderful and helpful. I’m beyond thankful to have another chance at life and it helps greatly to have what I consider friends there to help me. I highly suggest that anyone who’s looking to get help with their opiate addiction consider checking out Porter-Starke Recovery Centers. There’s one in Valparaiso, Indiana and one in LaPorte, Indiana. I’m not sure if there are others, but I do know of these two. Please, spread the word too if possible to anyone and everyone. Just mentioning it to someone can save their life or someone else’s. Don’t be afraid to get help if you need it. It takes a very strong person to admit when they need help. You can do it. I promise you, you can get over your addiction."
"The lack of competency, consistency, and accountability among some staff members here is extremely frustrating. Coming in on weekends was so uncomfortable for both me and my loved one (who is inpatient in this facility) because the blonde security guard with glasses gave me the third degree and threatened to kick me out before I even walked through the door. Then I walked in and was callously stared at from the desk by the office staff. I later found out this is because I had hugged my loved one during a previous visitation and the security guard on duty at the time (really nice guy with gauges) was totally fine with it. But now it becomes a problem on a subsequent visit, apparently because it is my fault that I did something without knowing it was against a rule, and not all rules are followed and not all staff are held accountable. And also really? I can’t hug the person I’m visiting in the psych ward? It feels like common sense was completely abandoned. And that is where the problem lies. A few bad apples really spoil the bunch and sour the whole experience, when at the end of the day I was only visiting to support my loved one. I wish these people would realize that people are in here for mental/emotional/social support. I cannot speak about the treatment, but the service is frustratingly abysmal. What part of mental healthcare requires you to be callous and intimidating? Unfortunately, very typical for a bureaucratic psych-institution."
"The place is garbage they let the dosing lady Mary Ann run the place and tell the counselors what to do when her job is to push a button and fill bottles uo all she does is try to aggregate ppls life and make their life hell."
"EXCELLENT!!! Shawna Reed, N.P. I am going on my 6th year at Porter Starke and I have had 0 problems there. I see Shawna on a regular basis we have cried and we have laughed she's like talking to your mom. When you meet her you can tell from the start she isn't there to judge, she's there to help you she listens to you she doesn't rush you out of her office she will talk to as long as you need her. I rate her up there with my best friends because that's how I feel is she is your friend. Keep it up see you soon my friend. Bobby"
