"My experiences with a nurse practitioner are phenomenal, the administrative side of the business could use significant improvement. It is annoying to say the least."
"I called the office to request a prescription for Paxlovid after testing positive for COVID. I was told by the front desk staff, I would need an appointment before either provider could prescribe it. For context, I presented to the office twice within the past two weeks. I was told the soonest appointment I could get would not be until Monday! I was met with an attitude for advocating for myself as if they were doing me a favor for asking for medical treatment that would be administered in a timely fashion. I have tried sticking it out with this medical group because I know the practitioners there to be competent and pleasant, but the front desk staff are absolutely the worst. I have been a patient at Chhabra Medical Corp for more than 10 years at the Portage location until I grew very tired of their front desk staff's incompetence and deplorable attitudes towards patients. Over the years I have made formal complaints to the various office managers who did nothing to resolve a billing dispute or just a general complaint about maltreatment from the front office staff. After many years of frustration, I decided to switch to the Merrillville location and my experience was much better; however, my most recent experience with the Portage staff has prompted me to request all of my medical records and leave the practice for good. For whatever it is worth to those who may be considering receiving care at Chhabra Medical Corporation, I would think twice especially if you are going to the Portage location."
"If I could give zero stars, I would. First, Katrina is amazing. She has got to be hands down the best primary care I have ever had. However, the office is awful... both Portage and Hobart locations. The receptionists have attitude and don't mind throwing it around, no matter how polite you can be to them. I have recorded calls where I would make an appointment in one location, show up to that location, and they'd change locations without telling me so I'd miss my appointment. My spouse had an issue with the staff refusing to relay information to the doctor for medication refill because mo they visits haven't been done. Monthly? No one ever said come in monthly to get routine medication. So an appointment was attempted, but staff refused to make an appointment. I call to get an appointment for life sustaining medications, without I'd die, the staff said they can't see me unless it's an emergency, nor refill my medication. Why? They wouldn't say. I called back today and was finally told I have been discharged from the practice because they didn't like my spouses attitude. Really? And if we were divorced and they didn't know that would be ok to just drop me? I made all appointments, followed all doctors advice, up to date on payments... missed an appointment because I had COVID and 1 due to a death in the family, but that's (other than office staff giving wrong location or changing it last minute without telling me). I plan to file an official complaint because now I have to attempt to find a new primary care physician because I have been without my life sustaining meds in weeks, I can go into a coma and die without them. This office sucks. I do not recommend."
"I would never utilize any of their many facilities. They are unprofessional and unethical, if you are involved in a personal injury case I would never recommend going there as they refuse to bill your health insurance, the simple reason they are greedy and wish to take all the money, I will be digging into this but I am sure that they are violating ethics and contracts with the insurance companies."
"I saw the nurse practitioner, Katie, and she is great. The front office staff at the Portage location, however, leave much to be desired. I had an appointment for a Rx refill. As I signed in I was told my total for the appointment would be $78! When I asked why, I was told that my deductible had not been met. I have never in my life had to meet a deductible before my insurance covered PCP visits. My insurance card clearly states that PCP appointments are paid at 20% coinsurance, regardless of deductible. I pointed this out to the front desk staff, and was told that I was incorrect. They would not even look at my card, nor would they call the insurance company to verify. The woman who seemed to be in charge of billing was extremely rude to me, and treated me as if I was incompetent. She would not even entertain the possibility that I was right. I didn't have the $78, so they told me I could just cancel the appointment. I cancelled and left. Two weeks later I received a bill for $50 for a missed appointment fee. So, they charged me for missing my appointment, which I only missed because they overcharged me and I couldn't afford their incorrect price. Not to mention that at no point was I told that I would be charged a fee for cancelling my appointment. I called my insurance company to make sure that I was correct regarding PCP appointments and the deductible. My insurance company agreed that I was correct. The woman from my insurance company called the Chhabra Medical Corporation office, and was told from the billing manager that she was wrong and that I had to meet my deductible before the insurance company would pay. Yes, you read that right: the billing manager told the insurance representative that the insurance representative was wrong about the insurance! I refuse to pay this bill, and I've filed complaints with both the insurance company and the State Attorney General for this deceptive business practice. I will never go to this doctor's office again. Unless you want to deal with rude and incompetent billing staff, go somewhere else. There are plenty of doctors in NWI."
